    New Yamaha Bike

    Just seen one of these:

Two front wheels, one rear. Apparently the front wheels lean with the bike in a turn.

    Anyone ridden one?

    Gay, right up Gerbil's passage.

This style of bike comes out every few years, and has done since the 60s; never seems to catch on.

    What are the benefits?

It's wider, she'd just hit even more things...

Last time we went to the market, her driving, she hit 2 pedestrians. When I questioned her as to why she hit them (granted it was at low speed), she informed me that they were walking in the road and should have moved to the pavement.

It might be ok for old folks/others with stability issues (excellent for riding back from the pub, for example).
    Cycling should be banned!!!

That is not the big front end you are supposed to give her.

How much are they then? I think I saw one nipping around the lake today. Was it Sym that made a similar one? Some guy around here was trying to sell a 2 year old one for 165,000 for ages.

Could be an MP3 which would be worth 165,000 even if it is two years old.

I remember reading some good reviews of the Piaggio MP3 about five years ago- granted it was bigger, more powerful, and much more expensive, but it was supposed to be extremely stable through medium-speed turns (though there was some lateral movement at higher speeds, but it's a scooter, not a sportbike).

I wouldn't buy one, but I'd like to test-ride it for the novelty effect.

It's still way too much bike for BB, of course...

There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

Yamaha Tricity - on sale here now @ 80,000 baht - made in Thailand and an admitted copy of the Piaggio.
There are over 200 models of scooter 125-150cc trikes made in China which might give an indication of the market for nervous ladies, the disabled and the elderly.
125cc, watercooled fuel-injected 4 stroke, auto, step through, combi brakes with ABS (all disc).

I am disabled and certainly interested in upgrading from my electric trike which allows me to zip around the village up to 25 kmh but hasn't got enough guts to climb the hills that surround Kamala to "escape".

Yep - it was the piaggio - a lot bigger engine. I quite like it actually.

Has anyone ridden one through a pothole? For some reason I get the feeling you are less likely to end up with knees like a skinless sausage on one of these.

Puncture repair costs increase by 50% over a conventional scooter.

    Baz,

Sorry for a lump of reality but with MP3 there is a lock, to lock the wheels when parked but it has to be released when riding. So be prepared for the same or none when inspecting the Yamaha. Yes it has 3 wheels but they are not very wide apart and it still needs a little support when stopped.

If you ask around Phuket there will be a company that can convert any new scooter like a Click into to a proper trike, if not there are many in Bangkok. It has to be a new conversion to be registered as a three wheeler.
Better to think inside the pub, than outside the box?
I apologize if any offence was caused. unless it was intended.

I really like it and though, ya perfect foe the wife, or me....then saw it..still like it but was disappointed in the fact you still have to put you foot down.
Not sure why but was thinking it could stand on it's own....and that would be a cool advantage....so honestly no real advantage as stated above.

Next time I am in CM I will check it out again...now up here in CR yet..
