The Future of Automobiles Powered by Intel

We cannot deny that technology has become a big part of our lives; a dependency that would now be hard to leave behind. But analysts have predicted by the year 2559 (2016) that internet connection and the access of information online will be a primary requirement in vehicles, and an important factor when making a purchase. The ‘Internet of things’, or (IoT) as it is referred will be a demand for buyers wishing to receive or enter data via cloud, or receive and forward traffic information and communicate between other vehicles. New approaches are being discovered and manufacturers are speeding their efforts in cooperation with technology leaders such as Intel to help create a safer and more enjoyable driving experience.

Google will dominate that market, can send GoogleTalk messages while driving and to vehicles near you

imagine the possibility of sending insults to the cars in front of you because they are too slow

road rage would have a new meaning,

"Smart" cars and internet connection are inevitable. I just hope that manufacturers and legislators can see past marketing hype [] and provide only functions which enhance primary safety. Probably not though., I can see a future of zombie 'drivers' connecting with their ovine 'friends' totally oblivious to the actualities surrounding them. This then, will 'require' all sorts of nanny devices to be fitted like auto brake, lane change, blind spot warning ad infinitum.
Whoops, I think we're already there. I rented a Volvo recently which had all of those
driver 'aids' fitted. It probably needed it; to interface the the various menus in the centralised controller required an inordinate amount of time away from actually driving. The car was probably the most annoying I have driven, with large amber lights every time to remind me a vehicle was adjacent, a 'wheel shaker' if i drove close to a line without indicating [impossible at intersections] and various sqawks and buzzes. After about an hour of fumbling and narrowly avoiding accidents, I got most of the annoyances silenced and could then take the time to be situationly aware of the cars progress down the road. 'Worlds safest Car'? Hmm.
I guess the future cars will need better crash worthiness to protect against the inevitable smashes. Not sure how Intel will enhance that.

Just what we need more distractions. Do your emails at home, not while your driving. Concentrate on driving, if you can't do that hire a person to drive for you and then do all your texting etc. What would happen if the grid went down? Would people even remember how to talk to other humans?

    It is a bit much.
Personally, the ongoing automation of our everyday lives leaves me quite perplexed.
The dependence and control will create [if such hasn't already] beings that are unable to do most anything for themselves, including a critical thought process.

Not just as it figures in our "relationships" with motored vehicles, but our connections and interactions with everything and anything.

This is all very well, but the day that my 6 month old laptop functions flawlessly 24/7 with no bugs, no hangs, no "conflicts" is the day I would trust my life to a car developed by software and computer companies.

I can see it now - your doing 70 (after all, the computer car will only allow you to do 70) and you miss the display saying you need a restart, so it suddenly cuts out in the fast lane, slams to a stop, reboots, and if you are still in one piece, drives you off again.

actually I take that bit back. They will let you break all sorts of traffic laws and as you do so, the car will take a payment from your bank straight away paying the fine, inform the DVLA you have another 3 points, and it you totted over the 12, will cut your car off, call the police reporting you for driving without a license, pay that fine from your bank (unless you do not have the funds or license suspended too many times) and drive you straight to the prison "drive in" admissions office for your 3 month sentence.
