What happens when you use the truck as a Thai taxi? I do like the lids, but I often have to take the family and friends to different events.

My wife had a large cushion mat made up and the automatically raised back lid lifts high enough so an adult can comfortably sit upright.

Loy Toy, can you tell me the make and price on your lid? You can PM me, if you want. Thanks, Rick

I will do that tomorrow morning Rick and these lids are invaluable and from memory not so expensive but very durable.

Pick-ups are a bit poofy, unless in orange. I still want one of these:

Are there really that many problems with them or was Fondles just unlucky?

I looked at trading in my Vigo on one of these, but they wanted too much money. I think Ford has a pretty good product in Thailand, but as with any vehicle, there are some lemons. I think Fondles was unlucky enough to get one and I would recommend he sell it or trade it in. Once a lemon, always a lemon and it will cause you nothing but pain and money. Get another Ford Fondles and try again.

I also think that the Ford range in Thailand is excellent. Even though I bought Honda, and like their vehicles, with the Brio and Jazz being pretty average, the new Civic being shite, and the CRV/Accord being nice but boring (obviously the City is the best city car available for the money... ), I see the current Ford line-up as superior. Not impressed with the current Thai Toyota range either.

But, the Ford dealers and aftersales service is poor. Honda is strong in this department. Toyota less so...

The worry is that if you do have a problem with a Ford, then like Fondles, you're fuked...

I think a lot of it comes down to your local dealer. I will try to find a Ford dealer in Thailand close to home that has a good service department and I feel that I can trust. After completing this contract in Oman, the house and Honda City will be all paid up, so I'll be looking at getting a car that I like. The test drive I had in the Ranger impressed me, so that's top of my list, but I'd also like to look at the Subaru 4x4, and if the new Hilux is out then that be very interesting too.

I wouldn't buy a Chevrolet under any conditions. The Mazda pick-up is nice, but I prefer the Ford. I don't much like the current D-max.

When I lived in Australia I bought myself a 4 door automatic 4x4 hilux, from that moment i will buy nothing else. If you are inside it looks like a sedan, although a bit higher, does 150-160 without any uncomfortable engine noise and I FEEL SAFE!

When "sightseeing" in flooded Surin City yesterday and had a ball. Little cars, the "handy" city commuters got stuck "read" flooded on the major intersection.

I've put a real bullbar on it (ARB) not the silly nudges you see here all too often and a carryboy wow that car looks nice.

If people have trouble parking and making a U turn in these cars, good you bought a small car, you can't drive! I seem to have no problems doing that.

I remember the first time I had the bull bar installed, driving back home I hit a buffalo, not that hard but still, without the bull bar, the front panels of the car would have been gone.

Got some other gizmo's built in, this is my car 4 ever!

Expensive cars you can only drive in congested Bangkok with the potholes and other shit on the Thai roads.

Other thing that makes me drive this car, I'm almost 2meter tall, with a back problem, can't get into small cars or cars that sit low to the road.

I'll post some pics and/or vid when have time.
If everything seems under control, you're not going fast enough.

Better look on the Internet about the disappointed customers with the Ranger. Ford makes very good F series, but this "truck" is clearly a miss.

Well what I need right now is not a pick up, but a boat. Been raining so long ,16 or 18 days and more to come I gather. Hope the trucks float. Jim

    Why not? You did.
I understand what you are driving at - Mazdas and Fords share the same chasis and engines. However, Fords are around 100,000bt more expensive and their customer service is legendarily bad as a good friend of mine found to his cost as have others who have posted on this

When I looked at the BT50 (could get one in 2 weeks, would've bought it, but the dealer wouldn't give me the money I wanted for the city - wasn't desperate to buy, so asked for 100k more than the City was worth...), it was a similar price to the Ranger, but the specs were better (although different) for the price. They don't match up perfectly, so it's hard to say, but for 900k I felt that you get more BT50 than you would Ranger, imho. But, the Ranger is better looking, and I much prefered the dashboard layout and materials.

Checked out the local dealer of Ford when doing the rounds - they didn't have a truck on the shop floor and didn't think they would have any to sell for at least 3 months. The price advertised on their website for the Ford Wildtrack Hi Rider Open Cab is THB 809,000
    http://www.ford.co.th/en/trucks/new-...odels/wildtrak

where as my limited edition Mazda Pro Series (only 1000 made) was THB 739,000.

^ That's cheap. I paid 680K (after 60K cash back) for a 4-door hi-racer BT-50 with no extras, this was the previous BT-50 model about 3 years ago.

What did you get? A badge? Or some extras (I'm thinking leather seats, rear reversing camera, etc...)?

So your Mazda has exactly the same spec as the Ford for 70k less?

    I won't be buying a Ford again.

Our Ranger (2011 model) has been worked hardish I admit but that is the point of a pick-up.

Ford service has been crap*, the brakes are shite despite numerous 'repairs', front suspension makes very alarming noises when the steering is at full lock, tailgate doesn't close properly any more, rust along the metal sides of the load-bay, alternator seems to be dying so unless it is left on the charger overnight it is hit or miss if it will start in the morning when it is needed, handbrake won't hold it on a steep hill, piss-poor fuel economy etc etc

    * I posted before that it lost braking one time because the fluid had drained out due to a loose bolt, that was incorrect. It lost braking because the whole fucking pump fell off after a service at Ford!

Maybe I got a lemon, but I won't take another chance on a Ford. A nice, boring yet reliable Toyota is in our near future unless some other maker comes out with something good meantime.
