What a wanker! At least you got the money back.

What you looking at now? I'll be picking up another bike tomo too, can't wait!

The Z800 can be test ridden now at Rama 9 I believe if you're interested.

    ^ That sucks.

I'm sure there are other options so you don't have to resort to getting a Kawasaki.

Deposit returned to the gf so fat chance of seeing that again.

He basically came up with some story about share prices and said I would have to pay tomorrow or he's selling it. Dick.

I have inquired about a 1200 sportster that is local to me and barely used but will probably be quite pricey.

I've trawled through dealfish and bahtsold but nothing standing out. Probably because I just want the one I put the fucking deposit down on.

The Z800 actually sounds alright. 375k sounds alright too.

Cheers Satonic. Not looking for anything in particular other than a good/fair deal.

Upright, streetfighter, naked, cruiser would be search words.

Might take a day in BKK to visit Triumph, Ducati, Kawasaki and Harley dealers. See what's on offer.

I'm away buying another bike until Thursday but when you're in BKK I'd be happy to meet you for a beer or point you in the right direction (I don't know if you're from/familiar to BKK).

Off the top of my head I know of a couple of Duc monsters and a friend is selling (last time we spoke was a month or so ago but believe it's still for sale) Triumph Sprint ST 1050 for a great price with a load of extras. I can contact him if you like.

    Cheers

I was thinking of selling my 2010 Triumph Thruxton when I get back in a month. Interested?

I had a monster S2r back in Scotland which is the reason I broaden my search beyond cruisers but I'm not looking for another one. The Sprint's not really my thing. I'd say my budget starts at 400k and is flexible.

I may test drive the Z800, see if I'm surprised.

Thanks for the help though, and I'm always up for a beer! I'll be travelling through on my way back To Songkhla from Korea some time in October, date yet to be confirmed.

Thanks but not interested. Of the Thruxtom/bonnie/scrambler range the scrambler wins hands down every time for me. Cheers though.

Suzuki have just started selling the V-Strom 650 here officially too for about 350k. Ok not the greatest bike but still a step forward in availability and choice of legal bikes in the LOS. And cool, shoot me a PM when you're about for a beer

I'm not shocked to hear they sold it out from under you- not many dealers anywhere will let a cash deal walk out the door, even on a vehicle that has a deposit on it- he at least gave you a shot at paying for it in full- too many dealers have buyers flake out on them (not to say what he did was right or justified, but I can see it from a certain point-of-view)- I had something similar happen with my bike.

You're really all over the board as far as the type of bike you want, and your budget seems to be 100,000-1,000,000+- that makes it hard to narrow down a choice (as the quality/age/brand of the bike you can choose varies so widely). For Ducati, you might like the Diavel (though it runs hot)- you should also look at the Streetfighter. The Z800 would be much lower on the scale (though much cheaper)- Kawi just came out with a new Ninja 1000 that I think looks great, and it will be available as an (expensive) import through the usual suspects.

For me, around a mil means the S1000RR or the 14R (obviously), but pretty much everything (bar a Panigale R or some massive HD cruiser) is available to you.
There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

He didn't give me enough time to wire money.

The thing is, the bike was pictured at the Triumph Shop although it was a private sale. As someone pointed out the reason Red Barron don't allow people to take pictures of the bikes it was always on my mind it could be a scam and when he wanted cash before I even met him I got more doubtful.

My gf gave him a link to my fb page so that we could talk directly and It's possible he saw a whole bunch of MC related stuff and thought better of it.

Who knows, but 400k may have been a little too good to be true for condition and mileage. On the other hand, the advert was posted by the triumph forum admin, so it must be dodgy haha.

400K with a proper book would have been a great price for that bike (in LOS).

I'll keep my eyes open in case I see anything you might be interested in.

I have found an advert for an '07 Speed Triple.

    Price is 320k with invoice.

Am I correct that I can get the green book for around 70k with the invoice therefor price is 390? Does that mean I'll have to back tax it from '07? Any other complications?

I don't think getting a proper green book is as easy as just throwing some money at it- others will probably know better, but I think with new regulations in place regarding used bikes, it's very difficult- I could be wrong re: a bike that's already been imported, but you can ask at one of the import shops- they might perform that service for a fee.

But the invoice means the import tax is paid, right? So the bike has the documents for proper registration right?

Yes, but it'll be a ball-ache to get the plates sorted out.

No. All the invoice does is show that perhaps some money changed hands for the bike, probably in another country.

If you're lucky the bike will come with the documents from the customs department which show that import duty has been paid on the bike at the "correct rate". What I mean there is that the "correct rate" would be the rate applied to a bike which was brought in in one piece in one container. The "wrong rate" would the rate applied for "parts" of bikes which come into Thailand in different containers and are then assembled as one bike.
It is the difference between these two rates that the customs boys are interested in, a recent nationwide sweep landed them quite a lot of money as the vast majority of big bikes here have been brought in and had import duty paid at the lower rate.

Thanks Spin, I'll check that out.

The chance of me pursuing a green book if I purchased the bike are pretty slip to be honest.

I'm mostly interested in the mileage which I'm waiting to hear back about.

There's been some buzz on the Thai Facebook sites about the Suzuki GSX1250A (based on the Bandit)- it looks like it would fulfill a lot of your requirements. No price, but I'd guess ~650K if it's brought in (which is possible as Suzuki is making some moves in LOS). It would definitely be worth a look.
