Taking advantage of the glut of repossesed pick-ups

I was looking to buy a new mazda pickup (two door with the small rear doors opening). Salesman gave us the low down and the promotional package including a voucher for 20,000bt discount bringing the price down to 700,000bt all in with 1 yrs free first class insurance.

A student of mine mixes with the business community and told me that the owner of the dealership is a friend of hers (he owns 4 in Chonburi and Rayong) and told me she'd talk to him about our trade in deal for my old toyota and that he'd be in touch to discuss.

Didn't here anything for a month and she phoned him a few times before eventually running into him at a restaurant. He told her that he didn't have stock which matched the same statement from our Ford showroom - the mada and ford are the same apart from the insides and outer shell.

Got a phone call from the Mazda dealership to tell me that the salesman was out of order offering the 20,000bt discount voucher which is not available for foreigners! This made my decision to choose an alternative route much easier - I'm not going to give my money to a racist company such as mazda.

My student tells me that there are a lot of repos of wheels bought in the heat of the moment last year to capitalise on the 100,000bt discount prog and people just can't afford to pay the monthly finace payments.

I've decided to go down this route as she does a lot of business with SCB and knows the finance guy in our local branch very well, This guy is heavily into the auction scene on behalf of the bank and she will set up a meeting for us to discuss our options.

Hopefully, will be able to report back with news of a great bargain and these things are less than a year old but are being sold at knocked down prices due to the high volume!

I thought the discount program was limited to cars with engines no bigger than 1.5L? I may be wrong though.

Good luck with it- but I found the secondary market in Thailand to be quite inefficient. The banks here are a waste of time.

Car auctions are your best bet, if you know what you are doing.

"Somchai Poonsawasdi, director-general of the Excise Department, said that as of yesterday, there were 250,744 car buyers applying for Bt18 billion in tax rebates.
Passenger cars had the lion's share with 141,000 units, followed by standard pickups with 54,000. The rest are double-cab pickups."

Small cars and 4 door pick ups attract the most rebates, mostly 80-100k

I was told I'd get 18k back from the gov on my 2 door pick-up. That's if they have any money to pay me after they spunked billions on the rice fiasco.

This is a pretty childish comment.

So you liked the truck when it was 20,000 baht cheaper? Obviously the truck doesn't have any other endearing features.

I'm guessing the 20,000 baht is still there if it is a Mazda program but either the salesman or owner of the dealership is pocketing that in your case.

Racism is a common, bandied about term for something which is nothing more than tribalism. In recent history Caucasians are usually the perpetrators so feel hard done by when it is applied to them. We are visitors here in a foreign land. Any norms of society we left behind are still there where we left them.

What is a Manchester car dealer decided to have a discount plan for City supporters which was denied to you because you support United! Similar metaphor could be applied to NY or any other city with two major sports franchises.
Better to think inside the pub, than outside the box?
I apologize if any offence was caused. unless it was intended.
You people, you think I know feck nothing; I tell you: I know feck all

^ it seems to be common practice here to offer some teaser verbally to get you to sign on the dotted line only later when it is time for the teaser / benefit to be written into contracts that it is then pulled.....ie "Stonewalling"

Walk away on principle. Every time.
