When you remove the head there is always water in 1 or 2 pistons as water runs out of the jacket when the head is removed of the block.

Of course you geter in the chambers when you remove the head as the water leaks out of the cooling jacket. A running engine will have no water in the cylinder chamber as you cannot compress water. that is why hydraulic devices are so powerful.
Treat everyone as a complete and utter idiot and you can only ever be pleasantly surprised !

You got that right fondles , we have had a few engines ( and gearboxes ) replaced by lao ford while those landrovers were on warranty, we have a large fleet of them though, so probably get better service than the individual

(Hydro lock) how do you know there guessing it was water coursed the problem.
But just because they remove the head & find water.

Now this is from The Big Fella.

Fondles Truck has very high ride height, so if it well above the water ?

I had a new piston put in my bike.
Standard 10/1 compression the only piston we could find in Germany 12/1 compression & the mechanic told me to take easy or I could bend the con rod.

Want ells could bend 2 con rods?

I think they could tell the difference between water and coolant......plus the coolant is drained from the system first before removal of the head.

Yet again another example of the 50% who have issues with water entry to your engine?

In spite of asking for a retraction on your part, what caused the damage and how did it occur that water entered your engine and hydro-locking two connecting rods?

Perhaps your mates Spin and MTD have answers?

As an owner of this specific vehicle the best explanation I can offer, based on fact, is the following:

The air box is on the far left side of the engine bay as you stand in front of the vehicle looking at the engine.
The air box is fed by a pipe that goes through what I would call the "flitch panel" or inner front wing and out into the wheelarch area. It's a plastic pipe that is about 31/2 inches in diameter and the bottom edge of this pipe is 945mm from the cement my car is parked on. Between the actual wheel and the pipe coming from the airbox is a plastic "inner wheel arch" or mudguard if you like. I don't have time to remove this to see how that pipe looks up there where I can't see, maybe next week I will check it out but my best guess on how Fondles problem occurred is that the rotation of the wheel caused water to slash up from the 300mm water depth, up to more than 945mm whilst going through this plastic cover somehow and into the engine. Like I said earlier, seems implausable, but there are two bent conrods on the bench and the pixies didn't do it did they?

The only other way I see this occurring is some electronic transient event that caused the injectors to fill the combustion chamber up.

    I agree with your guess.
The 300mm water depth would not be constant because other vehicles were using the road.
My guess would be a wave increased to depth which caused the problem.

Agree implausible. Bent connecting rods seem like a pretty "radical," result. Perhaps "main bearings/journals," were improperly connected in the original engine and over time they loosened and the water crossing became the "ghost cause," for poor assembly at the factory to begin with. You've got to be doing something really seriously wrong to bend a connecting rod.

OK, sorry. I was just browsing through the thread.

Obviously I am not a mechanic and was just sort of thinking out loud, that's why I phrased my post as a question and bad fuel isn't unheard of here.

I was wondering if perhaps Fondles' local filling station has been adulterating the fuel and by a bad coinkidink some water had accumulated in the tank and got sucked up while he was driving through his puddle. I wasn't trying to say that the water entered the tank while he was driving through the puddle.

I think someone already said that diesel fuel filter have a water separator which is supposed to remove any water that may be in it.

Sounds fine until you think of how much force would be needed to push the water all the way up there. Not saying it's impossible, just not probable.

I think Fondles said that the air box and filter was dry and in fact still had dust in it?

    And the headshaking continues.

Purchased a new short block engine and it did not come with an engine number stamped on it, finally after taking possession of the engine (3 months ago) the paperwork has been sorted to finally approach the Land Transport Dept to have the number stamped onto it.

As it turns out the Land Transport Dept want nothing to do with stamping an engine number and more or less told us to go fook ourselves.

So the people that are trying to sort this took the engine back to AAT and asked Ford to stamp the engine number.....they more or less said the same as the Land Transport Dept.

Ford came to the party though and a brand new Long Block Engine is being delivered on Monday (with an engine number on it), they kept the short block and provide the new one at no extra cost.

All things being equal I should finally have my Ranger back on the road sometime next week with a complete brand new engine.

Having evil thoughts with the hydrolock engine..... thinking billet stroker crank/Beefy I beam conrods/custom pistons and a compound turbo set-up pushing 3 bar of boost.

    HMMMMMMMMM.

Why would you need a master cylinder for steering ?

^ don't know if that's what it's called, the big horizontal cylinder mounted between and slightly back from the front wheels.
