    Nissan from Australia to Thailand

My Step son has a Nissan Cube here in Australia, value at about $10000,
he would like to ship the car to Thailand when he returns later this year.
Surely this would be a very expensive exercise even though he is a Thai national.

Aren't Thai nationals who repatriate granted some sort of one time deal to bring stuff in without getting whacked with huge import duties?

The question would probably be better answered by a call to the embassy in Oz or customs dept here.

That could be true, the shipping alone wouldnt be cheap, the reason I seek this information is my stepson is Thai, he is a great young man, but at times hard to tell them some things just are'nt worth doing.

Sadly cars are more expensive here or at least cars made overseas. He knows this so wants to bring his 300,000 baht car here instead of buying one here for between 500,000 -800,000

He's probably a smart lad with a ipad or at least access to the Internet so if he thinks it is worthwhile and will save him some money he can find out how to do it. He probably knows what the score is and will not be able to afford the same car here.

Maybe he hasfriends here who have saved money before

With the best will in the world sometimes the young know better and no amount of reason will prevail.

Just give him the link above and he can figure it out. Or he will find a company that will do it for him.

If it was easy every Tom, Dick and Harry would be doing it. Oh wait they are all on fiery transporters to Sisaket!

From everything I have read everywhere it is impossible to import used cars to Thailand unless you are a very well connected Thai.

^ Not true - you can bring in a personal vehicle if you are Thai and have owned it for more than 2 years.

    Quite right Marmite,

If you are Thai and it is your car whatever hole you have been working or living in you can bring it to Pratet Thai easily

I checked on Nissan's website and the only really gay car they sell here is the March. The Cube is not available officially. I'm surprised, because I've seen a few embarrassed people driving around in them in Udon.

Actually Marmite, they are great cars, full of hidden storage, OK performance, Ok on gas, seats 5 adults and 2 children and my stepson has plenty of nieces who like to be driven about. Tell me what else can a young man get that will do that, of cause he could get a Toyota van like everyone else.
Gay, not to my mind, practicle, absolutely.
Thanx for your positive input re importing the Nissan Cube all the same, I appreciate it.

I suppose it isn't easy if he's a young fella, as the insurance companies will rape his arse if he wants to drive anything even semi cool.

I still wouldn't waste money and effort getting it over here though.

While talking to my stepson today, he decided not to ship the Cube to Thailand, the car will be sold here in Australia, the money will be needed to start a business on his return..

If he wants to make some real money he can always get a very expensive car, own it for sometime, then ship it back and sell it. Once in a lifetime kinda thing though

I've seen a number of old left-hand drive cars from GM/Ford/Chrysler. Anyone know anyone else who has done this?
