So why no new vehicles with - LPG ?

In another thread I posted about the type of petrol that can be used in my girlfriends new car , some one mentioned getting LPG installed . I when visited several new car dealerships with the girlfriend looking at new cars , one thing that struck me was there was not one dealership that offered a new vehicle with a LPG option , yet when I walk past the large local LPG installation shop , its all ways full of new red number plated vehicles having LPG systems fitted . So why do you think that no new vehicle in Thailand comes with LPG as an option , its plainly obvious just looking at the constant long lines of vehicles waiting their turn to be filled up with LPG at the service stations , and the ever busy interdependent LPG installation shops, that there's a growing LPG demand

I'm not talking about CNG , but LPG .

Unless it is an OEM installation the dealer will be liable for all repairs costs in the case of engine damage due to the installation.... not a chance will they expose themselves to that.

In addition to what Fondles said
CNG cars are taxed at a lower rate but LPG are not.

As i've just mentioned in your other thread, we had LPG fitted to our car. It saves a heap shit of money. As for new cars, there are plenty. You haven't looked hard enough. Plenty of Mitsu Pickup kicking around too with lpg.

I also like the fact we have the choice of duel fuel. I wouldn't buy an LPG only vehicle.

That's strange , when we were trawling around all of the new car dealerships , ( Mitsubishi , Toyota , Nissan etc ) I could not see any brand new vehicles on sale in those show rooms , that came with LPG as a manufactures option , Can you please post any links that show any brand new cars for sale , that you can buy with LPG systems ( not CNG ) .

    Thanks

I stand corrected. I have seen many red plated Mits Tritons with LPG chromed badges and assumed it was purchased that way.

Tax reason in that case then.

I have never had to queue at an LPG station in 6 years of driving a vehicle with LPG. I suspect you are confusing the NGV stations which often have long queues with LPG stations which have no queues.

Many vehicle manufacturers make bi-fuel cars (petrol/LPG) just not here. Why? Don't know.

The LPG gas stations are crap. No food court, no KFC, no amazon, no day spa or factory outlets, no orchid filled toilets, not even a fuckin 7/11.

Now I think about it you could be right , the queues could have been for CNG

May be its as many people seem to think, no LPG manufactured cars in Thailand because of some sort of tax issue .

Jimmy there are ten times as many LPG as NGV stations in Thailand. I to have never had to wait, and also have been able to find LPG throughout Thailand at all times.

an interesting point , so there's more demand for LPG than CNG , so even with may be a tax implication , why don't the Thai based car manufacturers produce a LPG car , when the consumer demand seems high .

I don't know if I bought a brand new petrol engine car , I would have the ball's to drive out of the show room down the soi to Somchais LPG workshop , and get my new car converted to LPG , after being firmly told by the showroom that any modifications to the new car engine , would automatically mean that the manufactures engine warranty would fly straight out of the window . I know that some independent LPG installers offer some sort of warranty / insurance should things go wrong with the engine , but this is Thailand and old Somchai's work shop could vanish over night .

My wifes new Toyota Camry was bought and then she had it fitted with LPG as was her Altis before. Toyota arranged for her to keep the warranty, and we have had no problems at all. It uses a donut tank so the boot is still full size.
Dont forget you are paying a 20 to 40,000 baht premium on any new NGV car made by the manufacturer. So paying on your own is just about the same cost. You get LPG with many more stations and also a driving range of 400 to 500 K where the NGV is 200 or less.

If you are worried about Somchai's work dont go to him. Go to a reputable dealer who the car dealership knows about.

But for the most part they have a toilet.

Maybe as most LPG users are using it to save money, all customers are tight-wads, so wouldn't spend money even if there was day spa.

If you buy a Honda City NGV yes, the tank is so small it's a joke.
My Vios has a 100 litre tank and I get a range of up to 330 km

CAn the reason possibly be related to the concept of fewer customers in a business such as a hotel or bar warrants an increase in prices to make up for loses?

Logic? I admit it often escapes me.

That doesn't sound right Thetyim. My Fortuner has an 51ltr donut tank and I get roughly 360km.

I'm running a NGV so my tank holds 20 kgs of CNG
18 kg of CNG will get me up to 330 kms.

You are running LPG so your tank holds 40 litres of LPG

Thanks for the figures, I wanted to know what a 2.7 Fortuner does on LPG.
So you are getting about 9km/litre, that's quite good for an SUV
