Is that chain taking the drive from all those engines? Can't see it lasting long if you use the car hard but I guess a car like this is going to be more for showing? So in that case should be fine, crazy project never the less!
its a dream only, I don't want to be an asshole to henson, but its not ever going to come to fruition, but while he bulding his dream, he's doing no harm and keeping himself amused, all power to him, he could be doing worse.
I met a fellow county man "Bruce Mclaren" at the 68 Monaco GP, he was dreamer too and Look what he achieved even then.

true enough neal, big difference between a 1.6 l with a a torqe converter and a 3 x 3.5 V8s. We have all broken MC drive chains, and thats only motorcycle.
Actually, its a drag racing chain rated at over 600bhp. However thats irrelevant in the grand scheme of things, Hope to have the car on the road around Xmas time, after the house build is completed.

One interesting thing was the bit someone reported about needing a thai regod chassis for a special. That shouldbe possible...could make something interesting on an old ute chassis...

All horse shit aside, the guy knows what he's doing or he wouldn't do it the first place. I look forward to ALL of his updates and I learn from his posts. Thank you for posting Henson.

In the video you have the back axle on a set of springs.
But all of the picture the rear axle sitting on the sub frame.
Is the reson that when the axle is on the springs it is to high.
No, the chassis with springs sits on top of the axle as per original situation.
Since the video I have compressed the springs to take into account a tanbk of petrol, passengers, bodywork etc. So, I can now order the correct prop - only a short one !! haha, - and fit the chain drive for good.
Re the chain, it was chosen and supplied by the chain dealers who have been supplying such chains for 35 years for everything you can imagine, drag racing included, They had a look at the engine set up, chatted it over with me and told me what I needed.
As someone pointed out above, I don't really do stuff without research or checking with the experts. My life is too short to waste on cock-ups and having to redo stuff later on.
I see your going for the minimalist approach when it comes to the engineering.
How long till this beast is on the road ?
I really wish he Henson all the best luck, but I gotta say you approach is seeems a bit risky, when I was working I would say "a brave man ".
It seems to me that (from the info he has already supplied) he's been in contact with and KNOWS people that say he is on the RIGHT TRACK. I wish I had his knowledge and MONEY to do such a project.
I wouldn't do it but that's only because I would rather do more with my bike. 555

I would really love Henson to pull it off and make us doubhters eat shit, but gotta say best of luck, you will need it.
For those that think the gearbox mounting is grossly under engineered, and the chain the wrong choice, please provide your knowledgeable designs, and please show me some of your automobile design work. If mine fails, then I will immediately be ably to make up your design which will obviously work perfectly, first time.
PS, when I was 28 ( now nearly 59 ) I was designing road cars and chassis, which were, according to various racing testers of the day.. " good enough to go racing without any modification "
The gearbox mount needs gussets to add strength as there is nothing to stop it flexing.
Using the gearbox to tension the chain will not only add undue load on the chain but also the output shaft on the gearbox causing both the chain and the gearbox rear seal and bearing to fail prematurely.
Race cars built 31 years ago are not really considered safe by today's standards, Try pullng a 31 year old car out of the shed and get it passed scrutineering these days..............
Myself I come from a full chassis race car background (Previous occupation before the current Armoured Vehicle design and Fabrication) specializing in drag cars and with more than 2000hp on tap it is best to err on the over engineered side of things rather than feel the pain of when it all turns to shit which at 200+ mph happens real damn quickly.
Saying all that I assume the end target for this vehicle is to pose on the fair grounds idling around so as it stands it is not exactly a baby killing monster......good luck with the build, will it be finished before the move to Thailand or will you bring with ?
AS explained above, the car is just for shows and entertainment. I am happy with the strength of everything or would change it. I will go my own way, as I have done all these years, and if it breaks, then I will change stuff. However, all my previous designs are still OK.
Car is for UK and USA. Not moving to Thailand anytime soon as still have a block of flats to build next year. But will probably have a holiday over Xmas.
I have just caught up with this excellent thread. I am not an Engineer, so I won't be offering any advice. I have many questions, but I think I will wait and see what it looks/sounds/goes like. Nice to see that there are still people out there who are prepared to build a 'loony mobile'. Well done and keep at it!
