It's great if you're into Daewoos. There was a review on here by someone who said it didn't handle particularly well, and being a Chevy, it's engines are poor. That said, you bought a Hardley, so I guess that doesn't bother you.
If I was shopping for a Korean car, I'd also consider a Hyundai.
Personally, I'd wait for the new Ford Kuga/Escape, but the way Ford are going, it'll not arrive until 2845.
I bought the Captiva a couple of months ago. Very pleased with it actually.
I like the size - not too big (my other choice was the Pajero Sport) as I live in Bangkok, yet there is the extra fold away seats in the back which are useful.
Is a very nice drive.
Dont know if KIA are out their yet but the Sportage is lovely. Huge warrentys too!
Yep, we have Kia here.Originally Posted by navydoubs1977
The Chevy is BIG, much to big for our tastes. Probably going to go with the Honda CR-V.
The 2.0 litre CRV is a slug
Get the 2.4
When i test drove the chevy in 2010 it was bobbins as far as the handling goes. The crv had no power and was not as good as the mk1 version we had. I quite like to look of the kia and the suzuki.
Am I the only one with a Thai wife...
^No, my wife didn't like the new crv either having owned the old one. We have the Pajero 3.2, but i won't be buying another. not that we don't like it. In fact it has been great both on and off road and as yet had no problems with 107k on the clock. The only SUV/PU i'd opt for would be the new ranger or everest when and if available.
You bullied, you laughed, you lied, you lost!
Of course not, but women have no place in making decisions about what car to buy. Maybe let them have a say in the colour to make them feel better?Originally Posted by hillbilly

No way.
I'd end up with this
Last month I thought about buying a captiva but lost interest when they told me I could expect a 6 month deliver time for a white top line model.
Other option is a second hand BMW or say fuk the family and get myself a muscle car
No my Harley's are my extensions, as for the truck I would happy smash it with a hammer and set fire to it. I would love a old muscle car, I see a few up for sale but after truck experience I would be worried it could turn into another money pit and time waster. Plus I could imagine the wife if I bought another toy and of course she wants me to buy the new captive. I need to sell some cars before buying another.
Here's a cool old muscle-car being sold in Bangkok for less than 2mil that caught my eye- I toyed with the idea of it, but I think parts and maintenance would be a bitch, and left-hand-drive isn't a great idea in LOS (it says it has a 302 in it so it can't be all-original):
Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 - Auto Assistant Centre Co.,Ltd.
There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.
HST
Looks ok but some better buys around for half the money.
^
Very possible- I have no clue as to the American classic car market in LOS- this one just caught my eye when I was looking at Porsches, though the wife might not appreciate me blowing so much money on one- the prices are just stupid for a used base 911 here.
I would buy a '67-'69 Camaro long before I'd buy a Mustang anyway.
The Hi-So neighbor (across the street) who sells the dried fruit in Swampy Airport says that he is now looking at the Chevy Captiva as it is much better than the Honda CR-V which he currently owns.
Let's see what K. Dee says about this...
Here ya go Rigger
1970 Ford Mustang Mach 1. comes with 351 V8 engine, but not fitted. The car drives and is currently fitted with a Toyota engine.
The car needs paint and some restoration, hence price, 770,000B. Probably never find another example in Thailand at this price, grab it while you can!
one more 1.2 mil
My 2009 Honda 2.0 liter CRV suits me just fine. Unlike what some have noted in this thread, the power and get up and go is just fine. Not sluggish at all. The gas mileage is not as good as what I would have hoped for but it is a sound engine and mechanically, ergonomically, and functionally I found it to a good purchase. The newer designs of the CRV are improved over the previous models where the spare tire was hanging off the boot door and the boot door opened like a car door which I found to be something I did not particularly care for. The service on the Honda has been good as well. Take it in for the scheduled service and no worries.
"Don't Sweat the Small Stuff....and it is all small stuff"
Have owned the CR-V in Hong Kong. Will never buy another. It was slow and cumbersome with a ride not equal to the money you pay for it. Also fuel consumption was piss poor for a Honda.
I happen currently own a Honda here in Bangkok, will I buy another Honda? A straight no!
Too many niggles, too many fixing need to be done & Honda service is utterly crap.
Having said the above. Chevy service is crap too. But the Captiva is ok. I believe the newer models get the better engine, performance wise.
I would recommend anything Toyota, if you want reliability, efficiency, fuel economy and piece of mind.
Just ordered my third Camry in 10 years. Apart from a dead battery in the morning. Never given grief and just as handy as any CRV, Capitva and same price too.
And if wife is part of the decision making when it's come to buying something mechanical, I suggest you have a re-think.
