Cars Suitable For Carrying Pet Dogs

This is not a problem in the UK. I drove a Nissan X-Trail and now a Vauxhall Zafira to carry the family and our dogs.

What would the most sensible vehicle to perform these functions in Thailand, please ? It seems that a Fortuner would be suitable. Am I right in thinking that no pickup would be because the rear compartment could not be cooled ? I know it seems daft but, although I lived in Thailand for a year, I cannot remember seeing any estate cars. I'm not saying that were none there, I just can't remember seeing any.

It is almost certain that I will be living in Isaan and a 4 x 4 capability would be handy. Any thoughts, please ?

You can buy a rear canopy with an individual AC unit and stereo so the dogs can listen to Snoop while you listen to real music in the front.

They can manage without the music but aircon is essential for them. Is it possible to cool the space under the hardtop ? My first thoughts are that it would not be because of difficulties with sealing, but others with experience of carrying dogs will know.

They have a heavy rubber seal and the AC is self contained and just needs a 12v supply which the installer will sort out. A Boyo I know has one on his Tiger.

I am now veering towards a Toyota Hilux + Sport hardtop. Pictures I have seen on UK sites look nice. Last time I was in Thailand I drove an Isuzu ( something ? ) and it was OK. It had a fitted hardtop but was old and, as I never sat in the back, I wasn't sure about how effective the aircon was.

One little novelty fitted to it made it sound like a jet engine when reversed gear was engaged. I am a little bit childish and like that sort of thing.

Any car that allows your dogs to feel the sheer joy of this will earn you a friend for life.

Although ones like this can be a pain washing all the slobber off the car later...

    Dogs need A/C?

Maybe a St. Bernard or a Husky recently imported from Alaska.

My Bangkaew with the double coat does just fine in the back of my pickup. Heads straight for the pool tho whenever he gets the chance.

'sport hardtop' on a utility vehicle seems rather strange, just get a bloody Mitsubishi Pajero or something similar...

Cut out the middleman (cambodians) and just pump the dogs straight into some Thai sausage skins, just dump in a 5kg bag of rice per dog minced.

When I read this this morning I thought the same. I hadn't ever recalled seeing an estate car here.

Then before I'd even left my moo baan there was a Chevrolet estate. Not sure of the model name as I wasn't expecting to see it.

I guess it depends on the size of the dog and the journey. Any hatch back has space for a dog to lie down in the back and sleep. Unless it is a great Dane or something huge.
There are quite a few estate cars/station wagons mostly Volvo, then Chevy Optra (discontinued?) , the Mercedes and the least amount are BMW and Audi.
Better to think inside the pub, than outside the box?
I apologize if any offence was caused. unless it was intended.

After reading all these negative comments regarding the Fortuner, I realized it was time to add some long overdue accessories to mine

Quite a few of the taxi's at the airport drive toyota estates . I've sat on the back seat while he was driving and they seem to go quite well.
Plenty of space in the back for a dog or three.
