It might have more HP (though not torque, which will probably be more important to you) but it's a 2-stroke, which is a very different animal from a civilized 4-stroke- for the riding you said you want to do it's the wrong choice.

I think you'll be surprised at how you have to rev the piss out of the NSR to get it to start moving (and then it's like a light-switch as far as the power goes- all of a sudden it's all there).

When you read a spec chart, pay attention to not just how much hp a bike puts out, but where in the rev range the bike makes its peak power (a bike that makes it at 8K will be VERY different from a bike that makes it at 11K)- you also want to see a nice flat torque curve that peaks very low in the rev range and stays that way until you approach red-line.

Well, that's a pick-up truck, so perhaps it's not the best comparison...

This is the power chart for a 2000 Hayabusa (a bike I owned)- notice how flat the torque curve is, and how early in the range it comes on at close to 100%- that's the shape (if not the numbers- you need a few more miles under your belt before you can look at bikes in this league) you want to see:

That's a very 'streetable' power-band (for any of the three).

Notice that while the Kawasaki makes the most peak hp, it's makes way less than the other two in the mid-range (which is where you'll generally find yourself on the street)- if I had to choose a bike based on that chart, I would take the Honda.

BB What I would look at what fits with the money in your pocket & will be used to go to work.

If you think a Ninja 250 has a shit powerband then then NSR is something even worse.

You could get a nice CBR400 Repsol for not too much. Rigger used to have a lovely one.

Wouldn't advise that for a novice needing reliability, without motorbike contacts in Thailand.

Most have been cooked at this stage, dodgy legal work, and unless you know a good decent mechanic with a good source to parts than you'll likely be on your scooter most of the time while it's in the shop having anything decent on it being taken off and kept by the 'mechanics' there.

By the way, there's a new Honda CBR400 being released within the next year.

Whether it will be a 400cc version of the new CBR250, ie. single cyl, or something more like the inline 4 we just have to wait and see.

Actually I just know that they're coming out with a new 400 or 600 for the Jap market to be built in Thailand. But might as well spread some rumours that it's gonna be a new CBR400.

I'd guess it will be a 400cc single or v-twin, be pretty bland and more about fuel economy than anything fun, and will have a CBR badge on it.

3 weeks it's been now, gone from 650 down to 125.

All this deliberating over which bike to have, and now worryin about having a license in Thailand.

True. I've just found myself a boyo to sort my bike out for me. Should be ready in a week or 2. Getting parts is actually very easy via Ebay or various specialist places, even for my old jalopy.

Actually, the KSR110 looks pretty neat... Comes in pink too.
