    Malaysia closes its doors

Hat yai and Sadao will die

KUALA LUMPUR, March 16 — Malaysia will be under a nationwide movement control order from this Wednesday (March 18) until March 31 due to the Covid-19 outbreak, Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin announced today.

He said that the movement control order also means all Malaysians will be banned from travelling abroad, and that no tourists or foreigners will be allowed to enter the country.

I know quite a few southern based expats who use Penang as a border bounce, either by air or road. Is it true that Vietnam and Cambodia have also closed borders?

Vietnam is certainly closed to British passports. I have a ticket to Hanoi on the 31st, which I cannot now use.

My Thai visa expires on 31st and is not extendable, according to the chaps at Immigration. I thought about visiting friends in Penang. That will not work.

I hope the Laos border and the Thai border stay open until the 31st, otherwise I'll end up on the Nong Khai bridge

You don't have to wait for 31st, do it now while the border is open!

The Visa is only the enter by date.

The PoTS stamp, for 30/60/90 days that you get when you enter is what is extended.

If it hasn't been previously extended, then there isn't any reason why it can't be.

If you are married the PoTS stamp can be extended for 60 days for 1,900thb. You don't even need to have had a visa when you entered Thailand.

Strange comment against the view of a knowledgeable chap like PR, who has more recent experience in the area.

Then again, no matter the subject, you always believe you know best.

Hat Yai is the commercial capital of the South, ffs.

Covid-19: Selangor cops conduct operations to enforce MCO (updated)

SHAH ALAM: Selangor police have urged the people to show maturity and take the current movement control order (MCO) seriously.

This comes following the beginning of operations during the MCO to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
Selangor CID chief Senior Asst Comm Datuk Fadzil Ahmat said his deputy of (operations/intelligence) Asst Comm Zaldino Zaludin led the operations Wednesday (March 18) night.
He said the ops began at around 6pm with a total of 27 officers and 81 personnel involved in conducting roadblocks and checks on business premises as well as public areas around Shah Alam and Petaling Jaya.
"For now we will advise those who are outside to only go out when necessary or for emergencies.
"During the ops, we also found several businesses, including a car wash, restaurant and vape shop, open for business. We advised them to close immediately or face stern action," he said.
SAC Fadzil said they also found that a temple in Section 8, Shah Alam holding its annual general meeting.
"We advised them to disperse immediately and close the temple," he said.
He added that during checks in Padang Jawa, several individuals were found loitering near a motorcycle shop and at a flat's parking lot.
He said all of them were ordered to disperse and go home.
"We hope people here will take the MCO seriously as this is the best way to curb the spread of the virus.
"During our roadblocks we also found instances of three to four people going out together to get food and such.
"We advised them not to go out in a big group and to remain home as much as possible," he said.
In Cheras, police also took measures to spread awareness on Covid-19 before Maghrib prayers, using loudhailers on patrol cars.
Cheras OCPD Asst Comm Mohamed Mokhsein Mohamed Zon said Bukit Jalil deputy police station chief Sub Insp Raja Zamani Raja Zainal made an announcement at the Talhah Ubaidillah Mosque.
"This initiative is being used at mosques in Cheras to advise the public to stay in their homes and refrain from gatherings or going outside without valid reason.
"Our personnel in patrols cars also got out their loudhailers to tell the public to stay indoors," he said, adding that roadblocks were also set up to ensure people were not going out unnecessarily.

why are you so resistant to change, especially in areas that don’t affect you, and nothing you say will affect the outcome?
