KL + Cameron Highlands NY 2020 trip

Happy New Year 2020 to all!

The BF and I spent a few days post Christmas in KL and Tanah Rata town in Cameron Highlands. I've been to KL twice before, but it was the first time for the BF. So we went to the usual touristy sites in KL first.

Pics of Manila airport first - very Christmassy. In PI, Christmas starts in September.

I'm posting from phone and the pics will come out as thumbnails. I can't be bothered to do it another way due to slow net, so if someone can repost or whatever, thank you in advance!

That pic of the flowers is great. The vendor is so well camouflaged, you can hardly notice her.

    Looking forward to Highland sights.

    Some great shots there Katie.

Ref teh photo size, i have found if you upload them to imgur, you can upload multiple ones a time and them save them back from imgur and upload to TD they come up full sized. Bit of a palava but it works.

@toot - the picture posting to external site + linking here is too tedious for me to do on phone with my slow net. Ppl will just have to bear with the thumbnails or click on the pics itself. Sorry guys - net limitations.

Anyway, on with the pics. Some KL sights before I proceed to the Highland pics.

Btw, thanks to those who sent greens.

Tried to do this mini trek up the KL Ecopark but it was too humid and we weren't really up to it. So we went on to Pasar Seni & Central Market, where we bought stuff and I unleashed my inner Imelda.

After a few days in KL (temps were ~30-32 degrees during daytime), we were ready for some cool breezes in Cameron Highlands.

To get there, we went to an area called TBS which is the central station for buses going to the provinces. Our tickets were prebooked online (Unititi bus lines), 1 way fare to Cameron Highlands was 35 ringgit. Journey took ~4H, with 2 toilet/rest stops along the way. For the first 3 hours, the road was flat and mostly palm oil plantations on both sides of the highway. The last hour was on curvy mountain roads.

From Tanah Rata in Cameron Highlands, there are buses to Penang/ Butterworth, Langkawi & even Hat Yai (which is on TH, I think?). There are also south bound buses to KL, Melaka & Singapore. We found it very convenient to travel by bus.

    Btw, 1 ringgit = 4 usd, 4.5 € and 5 £.

Quite possibly the best accompaniment for beer ever invented, more so if the peanut dipping sauce has some heat in it. Superb

^I'm afraid it's not a dusty field anymore - very touristy. It was a Saturday when we visited. So loads of people. No kavadi either, but the Indian women were dressed to the nines - very colorful. And as you've seen from my pics, in the world of social media, there were loads of Instagram GFs or wives.

Day 1 in Tanah Rata (in Cameron Highlands), we decided to take it easy and just walk around.

Saw a building from afar, which looked like a Chinese temple, but was in fact a Chinese resto. Anyway, it was an interesting walk.

    KL + Cameron Highlands NY 2020 trip-img_20191231_141037-jpg

More pics later as my net is acting up. I found Tanah Rata to have a quaint, small town feel. It's at higher altitude, so was blessedly cooler than KL. Temps ranged from 14-22 degrees when we were there. I would liken it to Baguio City or Sagada in PI, bcos of the cool climes. We joined a half-day tour and saw most of the sights that were posted by Bogan in Parasite in the other thread. Other days, we took short walks around the area (waterfalls, hills) and just chilled. I enjoyed this holiday and would recommend it if you're travelling with the wife/family and want colder temps.
