    A Peak Round Penang

Lovely crumbling old colonial stonework in the capital Gerogetown.

Fort Cornwallis guarded the Empire's gateway to the east.

The Sri Rambai cannon dates to 1613 (a 150 years before Penang was colonised by the British) so over 400 years old. Local women put bunches of flowers in the erect blow-hole if they are having trouble conceiving apparently!

Colonial columns abound in Little India and Chinatown

I love Penang. I always stay there twice as long as I need to just to enjoy the food, people and the island itself.

Penang national park in the north west corner of the island

There is a great windy road for bikes going south from the national park. This waterfall is halfway along. You can sit in a bowl shaped bit of rock in the right hand fall and get a good back massage.

Kek Lok Si temple on the way back to Georgetown.

Air Itam dam behind the temple which is the water supply for Georgetown I guess. Very atmospheric place at dusk.

In Penang even the McD's is a listed heritage building.

    Penang hill with funicular railway

If the weather is a bit iffy like today then you can get your family photo taken with a fake back-drop.

Some students want picture with whitey.

Thought I was in with at crack at this one. She was definitely giving me the eye!

Kek Lok Si buddhist temple details.

These fellas were bangin out some top toe-tappin tunes on the buddha bongos.

Lim pier. One of several adjacent shanty towns of wooden shacks for Chinese (one pier per family name) built on stilts right on the waterfront in Georgetown. Many are ricketty but the interiors looked quite nice on a few of them. Must be expensive I guess if they have real titles given the location but the residents don't look rich.

Lovely lichen covered stones in the cemetery.

Town hall or High Court, can't remember which.

Fort Cornwallis by night with the canon Sri Ranbai peeking over the corner.

    Queen Victoria Memorial.

    St George's church.

Detail from the Church of the Assumption shrine.

I see you spotted Light's grave. Did you also see Thomas Leonowens' headstone not that far off near to the boundary wall? He died young leaving his widow Anna in impoverished circumstances forcing her to seek employment as a teacher eventually taking an appointment in King Mongkut's court.

Yul Brynner owed her a lot.

I did not know I was in a famous graveyard until I stumbled upon Thomas Light's stone. On they way out I noticed there was a map showing Julie Andrews final resting place but could not be bothered traipsing back again.

I thought she was giving me the eye actually or maybe it was just the horn! Anyway I spanked one off later on to thought of getting a blowy off her.

Come on loopy, spanking one off whilst on holiday isn't quite right, that's the sort of thing we have to do in Australia , I'm hoping you get the burqa of a couple of those Malaysian girlys before this thread finishes

^^Sorry to disappoint BLD but I am afraid the thread is over as I am now in Phuket and the Malaysian maidens remain chaste and virtuous - Allahu Ahkbar!

On the bright side there is a little brown honey curled up beside me in bed just now (snoring in post-coital bliss) so no more spanking the monkey for me until I am safely back in Aussie-land.

Thai girls - everyone needs something in life they can rely on.

Some really nice shots. The shot of the wall art with the kids on the real bike is blinding.

    Nice peak, Looper.

    I went to Penang once.

Details are somewhat sketchy but I'm quite sure a gentleman in an alluring frock featured.
