    ROTFLMAO!!!!
Never did master the squat toilet, finally after months of trying could squat and chat for a few minutes but to take a dump was serious business and usually the morning after dump was required even staying in a Thai Hotel up-country. Never any paper so I learned to carry my own, and there was never a wash up station with soap. Didn't eat anything until I got back to the base and cleaned up......

    Unfond memories,

Well, if anyones ever in Bangyai and is busting for a shit I can recommend the public toilet behind Tops supermarket next to the Bangkok Bank. Got caught short last week and in desperation entered the said place expecting the worse. Had to pay 2 baht to the attendant lady and pass through a pretty serious revolving turnstile ( head to toe job ) but it was 2 baht well spent. Super clean, flowers everywhere and free bog paper. Only thing missing was oral sex but for 2 baht maybe I'm expecting too much.

Sometimes the paper is available outside the toilet rooms, so you have to remember to grab some before you go into your little cubicle and do your thing

Everytime it seems I have to use the 'ole sqatter I got the case of the old rumbly grumblies. I am usually in some back alley market with the most deplorable looking room that cost 5 baht for the farang special price. I guess that takes away my guilt when the arsehole explosion takes place and I make quite the mess

Me but only naked. I have actually found that being in that position does squeeze every last drop out. My calfs dont burn like the used to and I get an almost clean pinch so very little clean up is required.
Yes! Naked is the way to go.

Bring baby wipes (available at every 7/11) and you'll leave the toilet cleaner than when you arrived.

Water is OK too if there is soap, or you remembered to bring soap. Without soap... I don't think so, particularly if there's no soap at the washing basin either.

And while everyone's complaining about Thai toilets here - it kills me that there's no ass showers on toilets in the west. How are you supposed to get clean using a dry piece of paper? Not gonna happen. Toilets in the west are much worse than Thai ones. Again, baby wipes - or wet wipes, same difference - are a solution..

How do you know when you've been living in Thailand too long? When the footprints on your modern toilet seat are your own.

On my frist trip to nativa Thailand, I got a good advice from a friend, an experienced SouthEastAsia backpacker: "If you see a good toilet (meaning clean, western style), then shit - you never know when you see one again!"

The tunnel effect, one of the most important results of quantum mechanics, says that a particle can "tunnel" through a barrier that is thin or weak enough.
I am reminded of this every time I use a Thai toilet paper or tissue.

After the time using the inlaws bog out in the corner of the property I scrounged up a piece of rope to nail on the wall to hold on to. next time we went back they had added a bathroom with western toilet and hot water shower I must have looked like a good catch for the favorite daughter

    Where to put the shopping?

By the time you have packed away some soap, toilet paper, wire, hammer, antiseptic spray in your rucksack where is the room for all of your shopping? :-)

I prefer to go shopping in places where at least a McDonalds is present, sofar in my experience I have found their toilets much better that other places.

However, I agree with what was said before, make sure those bowells are empty before you go out and don't eat anything that might give you the runs.......

I agree....the tissues in LOS are too weak...they are only really for blowing one's nose on. I have taken to putting in my backpack a few pieces of paper towel. I sometimes cut them in half first, to make em the right size.

You were lucky. "putrid stench, when we were young we were lucky to have a putrid stench. We had a cess pit for a kitchen. We were forced to live in a hole in the ground and eat toilet paper for breakfast."
