You should worry about the drivers.

Taxi meters are great. Just check the meter when you get in and make sure the guy understands where you want to go.

If you got plenty of time to spare, take a bus.

buses tend to get stuck in traffic; taxis are cheap and tend to know ways around the worst jams

but the subway or skytrain are best, if they are on your route

I usually use them to get as near as possible, then take a taxi

Let me take a wild stab in the dark, you coming on a tight budget?

The bus from air port is aircon, follow the signs. The areas it goes are by the major stops.

The ones in town (non aicon) do follow routes again signs at the major stops.
Now the fun part about these is there 50 -50 chance you'll go through the window screen, I've hit it twice along with the conductor. To be honest shes lucky to be alive as I'm big n bouncy and acted like a cushion. Gotta love those drivers.

Some of these are free, the red and white ones but unless you can read Thai you may be foked mate. Although the sticker is normally at the top of the screen in blue and white....If you do use these please bring lots of soap....Good luck...!

The ones in town (aicon) do follow routes again signs at the some stops. (work another week or save another dole cheque and use these) its better for all of us really...

One of my staff said you can buy a city bus map at the book shops in Bangkok but that would be cheating.

Right now the fun really starts.
If you want to join the dangerous sports club there are the old green smaller buses. Now they've tried to hide them by painting them orange I think but ARE dangerous late at night, people die using these but hey 7.5 baht 'lets hang the rich'....Bargin....!

Little four wheeled trucks lined up at the end of some outer sois (streets) 10 baht, not to be confused with Tuc Tucs. They will rip your trousers off if they think you don't know the score here.

Motto Sais (Bikes) at your own risk.

Invest in a THai burd one night she will no all the above but will want double the money to use public transport while travelling with a 'Keeneo Fulung' ...ask when you get here...

^and you may enjoy a night here too then...!

    Walk.

I personally have a driver but he has Sundays off. So I go out and experience the real Thailand.

    ENJOY...Have a good trip....!
Do you know what nemesis means?

When I first arrived in Thailand the BTS was being built, so therefore bus or taxis were needed. What I did at first was to take a taxi and look for bus numbers on the same route. After a half dozen or so of taxi rides I was able to figure out the buses.

This idea worked most of the time. But several times the bus turned the wrong way and I had to hit the buzzer. I then had to walk back and catch another bus...

Back in the days I had a good mate who used to visit Therme every night. He'd select the girl of his dreams and off they'd go. Outside he'd hop on the red bus and trundle off to Suk 42...what amazed me was that the girls always went with him. I asked him why one day and he just smiled and said something about they like what he smoked in his room...

Don't give the boy any ideas about that.

We don't want him overstaying his welcome.
