    Our family runs one.

Deep bore well, pumps, sediment tank, three stage filter, UV zapper, loads of plastic bottles and a truck to deliver them with.
Government inspections every 3 months (supposedly)

We pay 8 baht for a 20 litre jug of drinking water, delivered to the kitchen.

How the old girl, who runs the show, makes a living is beyond me.

There seems to be plenty around the place. As Thetyim says they get government inspections every now and then. (every few months my missus and a team in a mobile lab spend a week or so going around doing the inspections)

If you find an area without too much competition it could be worthwhile.

    4000 electric every month (minimum)

    transport

    containers

plastic bags and rubber bands for the ice.

Capital out lay for bore or well

    Pump - 10000

    holding tanks

    pipes.

Can anybody add to the list ?

    100%
    Delivery costs are a burden.
    A pick-up won't hold many 20 litre jars.
You need a nice tight delivery area to make it worthwhile.

Drinking water dispensers seem to be every where, in Chiang Mai at least. 50 satang a litre. We don't use bottled water anymore.

I thought that the drinking water/ice business fell into the same category as ice-cream making. That is, it is not forbidden for a farang to work in that business, but that he is likely to be rapidly knee-capped if he attempts to compete with the existing Thai-owned businesses of that type?

Or is that just in Phuket where this rule applies?

My arch nemesis across the road sells ice and water. I'm not up early enough to know if he makes that MASSIVE block of ice or gets it delivered, but he chops it into chunks with an axe, then lobs them into a noisy as fvck cube grinding machine for about an hour solid at 0645 every morning. Not sure about his water, but he charges us 100bht for a large bag of ice, 2-4 times a day. I'm gonna question this tomorrow so thanks for bringing this up.

I looked at doing the ice thing years ago and was told that most probably the shop will burn down.

Glad you made the point. I was about to say the same.

The cost is your knees if you go anywhere busy n if you don't, you'll go skint.

Do you know any Burmese delivery boys that work seven days a week for 1000bt.....?

    Just askin like...!

Could always open a burger stand at Nana.
Do you know what nemesis means?

13 baht for a big bottle my way.
You may think I am getting ripped off but the owner gives me free ice for my beer when I sit at his shack. My friend(s) also get the free ice treatment if they are sitting with me, so I make the 13 baht back in my free ice consumption.
Seriously OP. You gotta come up with a better plan than this. What do you do in your home country? could you incorporate your skills or use any contacts that could benifit you?
God speed on your endeavor dude.

i think a better idea is drilling a well and selling water for farming. this way, they can grow two crops a year instead of one.

Yes and let them suck it out until no one has any water, Parts of Thailand have been doing this for years until this year where the goverment has stepped in and stopped them.
