I think that there are over 3000 Micro Breweries in the UK,
When I lived there my local always had at least 4 of these beers on at any time, some were brilliant some not so but it was a pleasure finding out,

My mum's old pub used to have 13 real ales on. God, I miss that place...Originally Posted by TSR2

Limited availability here, so Beer Lao and Asahi are my bottled favourites. Draught Guinness is now a decent price in most areas of LoS, though. Full after a couple of pints tho.
Used to enjoy Carlsberg, until the greedy cnuts fucked up the license deal here..

Did they clean the pipes every night and fill with water ?
The pipes were cleaned every morning and every time one of the guest ales finished. Four of the ales were always on; I know Spitfire was one of them, but I can't remember what the other three were.Originally Posted by TSR2
They also had a couple of lagers for people with no sense of taste and a nitro-beer for the retarded.
Free houses are the way to go and the only establishmaents left in the UK that are truly pubs. These brewery owned pubs have no real ale of choice - expect very shitty Greene King IPA or Abbotts ale from the keg in those shitholes. A real pub would have the real ale in csaks of those brands. The difference is immense.
Saying that cellar management is also a huge factor in dispensing a quality drop.
Wish I could of visited Mtd's mams pub; 13 real ales, brilliant.
As what TSR says there are alot of micro brewers out there though I think but cannot insist they must be suffering alot with the downturn in pub smoking laws and economic grip.
Last pub I worked in the UK had on static 4 real ales - Black Sheep, Uley Bitter, Cannon Royal Mild & Caledonian Deuchers IPA. Plus another 4 guest ales from the micros rotatating.
I also rember being popular were Hobsons, Timmy Taylors, Hereford Pale ale and one called JHB which I can't remember the brewery.
One of the few things in the UK I sorely miss.....
Real Ale
Thats one of the only things I miss about the UK. There are simply no places like that here. Although, apparently a few bars have Fullers London Pride on tap here?
^ Not true on draught,
It is here in bottles, Rob from Fluid Asia has just begun importing it on trail. the places I've found it is in Jools Bar (full of cockney wankers saying fucking at the topo end of their voice however) so fcuk that IMO.
But further down ET at Bullys has it

Timmy Taylors make some of the best beer in the UK, in my opinion. A lot of people like Black sheep, but I am not such a huge fan to be honest. Stuff from Dent Brewery is also very good but less well know than Black Sheep.
^^Tetleys has replaced John Smiths and Stowford Press and Westons have replaced Strongbow
Robs says he can't keep up with demand for the Stowford press
Rob explained to me that the Heineken company took over John Smiths; can't remeber the companys name - somewhere in or near newcastle; therefore now completly out of Thailand
Not according to the importers website though.
Fluid Asia Pacific - Draught beer locations in Thailand
John Smiths is a foul substance, I would never dream of drinking it, even as a last resort!

OMFG!!! I forgot he was importing FOSTERS
and Pure Blonde and VB too
London Pride is listed too - but I know its only bottles
^^ Ispoke with Rob last week - only bottles for sure - TRIAL period
Ah ok,
I was considering importing some bottled real ale myself. There is very little available at the moment. Problem is, it costs about 150 baht a bottle after all the tax is added and thats without any mark up.
Has to be tough breaking in the market here with brand English ale.
I'm suprised about the lack of cider in the Thai market - it's a steaming hot country and I really enjoy an ice cold cider when I get indoors from the heat, any ideas why the Thais don't click with it? fok me if they can drink beer with ice they can drink cider with ice - amazingly I can
I'm surprised they haven't got the bottles into the farang supermarkets, they have other imported beers, mostly crap ones though. I'm sure you could break into the bar market as well if you had something different to offer. Could also offer on consignment basis at first.
I thought Rob was going to bring Tetley's in on draught?Originally Posted by Gordon Brown
And, I bet that bottled Pride is a bit expensive?
*Edit.
Read the other posts now.
Oh, and forget about importing ale from the UK, it's a fucking nightmare and unless you've got a lot of capital, you'll end up in the shit. I know - I've done it.
It's on food by phone for 165bht a bottle. Not as bad as 220 baht for some coopers ale at Villa!
^^ Shame OSH is the better one of the ones that get over here.
^ I don't know the cost for the London Pride per bottle.
I stock Coopers here. Can't think of the cost but we retail at 180 baht.
It doesn't sell and the importer doesn't have the effort to supply us with promotional gear, no matter how much I badger him, so fuck it when this dries up no more
Seriously, why hasn't cider have a hit with locals?
And again growing orchards out here - could it be done? Just a dream world question
Coopers Ale is also awful. I was bitterly disappointed when I tried it, considering how much the ozzies rave about it (that should have been a give away ).
^^You need massive amounts of capital to set up a brewery or even a brewpub here, it's a game reserved for millionaires.
220 for that crap!? Jeeeez!Originally Posted by madjbs
