    Talking Hello Again...

...moving back to BKK within a couple of weeks after about 13 years away (Oman, Korea and last year in Zhuhai, China - quite pleasant).

Currently, in England visiting the parents. I sent the wife back to find a nice (I hope) condo to rent for a while while I work out what life's plans entail.

Thinking about what visa to get, maybe a marriage visa, but I'm not sure if I can work on that - I want to do some part-time work ideally, maybe work half the year, but mostly do my own stuff. Thus, I suppose, I'll be looking through the visa section to check out the latest info; just turned 55 which might have an impact.

I'm glad this site is up and running; I tried many times over the last couple of years (in Korea and China), but wasn't getting on - I presumed it had died. Great that it hasn't.

    Anyways, hello again folks.

You can get annual retirement extensions quite easily. They are one of the easiest extensions to get.

Keep 800k in a Thai bank, or show an income of 65,000 p/m from overseas.

Or, and this is a big or, don't bother with that stuff and get an agent to do it for you and you don't need to keep or show any funds here. I believe Simon said it was something like 25k or 30k for the first year, then perhaps 15k a year thereafter, or something near those figures. I spent a decade living in Bkk and can't imagine wanting to go back to live there. Living near the sea or near the jungle mountains is far preferable to that heaving concrete cesspool.

    Anyway, best of luck.

    Thank you, Edmond.

I'm not retiring. I wanna work from home or get a work permit and job if I must. I was also wondering if I arrive on a stamp on arrival if I can then get that changed to a longer term visa in Thailand under the marriage to Thai concept. Maybe, I need to get a visa of some sort, so I can change to a different visa in Thailand? I have the marriage certificate and stuff with me in the UK. 1) I always previously had work visas in Thailand; 2) There seem to have been some visa on arrival/online application 3 days in advance (before or within, I'm not sure...). I'm just reading through relevant threads and looking at the UK Thai visa application process now. The more I can do online, the better, as I live a long way from the embassy...

And, I agree about living in BKK. I'll get an apartment there (rented), but aim to spend weekends/longer at Chaam or Jantaburi/similar.

Thank you ^ and thank you ^^.

I realise, my Thai thinking/knowing is back to zero after all these years. I feel like a virgin, so I'll be careful of Luigi.

Not to degrade the goodness and curmudgeonry of BB, but to use Armstrong as a foil of upmarket comparison would be like referring to a bum on the street.

That was not the Great Firewall of China, Betty.

The forum has been fading in and out of terminal life support for everybody, with periods of remission, for about a year.

    Welcome back!

I previously appled for e-Visa multi-entry (Marriage) from UK.
Submitted application & docs on Sunday, received Visa on Tuesday.
Best to do it before u start on the Adnams, more so before a Sunday sesh on the Broadsword.

^ Nice to see you, KT. Your loss on the jeans - they are a work of art, every pair. Since last discussed, I've added:

Studio D'Artisan 45th Anniversary "Amami Dorozome" Selvedge Jeans (Reg - Okayama Denim

A very nice pair from Samurai, a very nice pair from Oni and a cheaper, but pleasant enough pair from Kamikazee Attack - let me know if you want the full details and pictures.

    ^ thank you, David.

&, yes, that does seem to be a fair route: non-B from UK then change the non-B to a marriage visa once in Thailand. You can then get the work permit aligned to the marriage visa (the non-B is one of the visas I consistently got work permits aligned to in the past whereas it wasn't possible via an entry stamp/tourist stamp. Interestingly, I did once change a tourist stamp to a non-B in the old Bangkok immigration centre which I think was up Suk Rd somewhere near Pakanong?. When I say I... the immigration staff gave me a big "Not possible", I called a friendly dean with an important surname who actually came down to the office 45 minutes later, presented herself, and I received the non-o within 5 minutes).

I had a go last night for the non-O visa on the UK e-visa site. Let's see...

^ No, I haven't looked yet - I might wanna relax for a while (just finished working in China). My non-B visa application was linked to a marriage visa application which I hope to use this year.

    Hi Betty, welcome back!

How did you like working in Zhuhai, China?
I remember that you worked in Korea as I did for quite awhile. Seems China is still hiring like crazy.
