    Return to Cow Manor

Well after a rather long hiatus, driven by covid and a few other impediments, it's time to leave sunny qld and return to cow manor and into the waiting bosom of lady cow. A pang of regret leaving a beautiful part of qld, but Thailand awaits as I head off into the sunset and a new chapter in life. Bracing myself for the rich tapestry of life in the land of smiles.
The worst part is ridding oneself of so many items with no practical use but full of sentimentality and memories of a reasonably long life. The flotsam and jetsam that one tends to hold onto each with some memory of days past that must be sacrificed to the god of sanitation in the interest of luggage weight. Leaving the car and motorbike with my son who will not cherish them in the way his father does.
Anyway shedding the sentimentality it's onwards and upwards to South Bangkok until the new country estate is built hopefully towards the end of the year. I shall fill my days with lady cow once again at my side and shall intersperse my time in Bangkok with some traveling around the provinces catching up with old friends and finding a decent Oz sports bar with a big screen to watch AFL games, especially my beloved pusseys over a cold San Migue ly or a jack lock. Sorry, just practising my Thai in anticipation. The adventure begins.

Best of with the move mike. You did the right thing to shed things, rather than ship them expensively to Thailand, as I did. Most of them would just end up mouldy, 'borrowed' or abandoned- just as mine did. And frankly, they mean little.

Yep. Dragging heaps of sentimental things around the world is useless. It sure hurts to get rid of them, though. Just get new things that make you happy when you get to Thailand.

You'll end up getting internet TV at your new home, then get the WatchAFL app that'll set you back about AUD $200 a year. Can watch every game and the talk shows and match highlights and whatnot live or on demand then.

A Cats fan? Are you from down that way?

Its a great app and reasonable price. I’ve got Kayo as well, but I don’t like the interface as much and 4/10 times it recognizes I’m using a VPN and kicks me off.

The biggest problem is keeping under 30kg while still including lady Cows requests for various wines and chocolates.

Smart man supporting the Cats then. One of my best mates is a St Kilda tragic (club tattoo on his shoulder type fan) and normally around now, he'll confidently state that this year is going to be different

Most of the Irish pubs show AFL. The one at Ekkamai that I can't remember the name of seems to have a loyal following of Aussie's.

And wanted to perhaps see your team win a premiership in your lifetime...which rules out the Saints.
yes it hurts to get rid of some memorabilia, I had to do the same.
The pewter mugs traditionally given to me during my military career when posted onwards ...gone.
    Souvenirs from my travels...gone.
    An extensive CD collection ...gone.
I did scan some of my photos from travelling so still have a digital version of them, and Pirate Bay has provided much of the music
Between retiring and moving here I did a 15 month road trip around Oz, there was no way I was going to lug all that stuff around in the back of my ute, which helped to make the decision easier. Do I regret getting rid of it ? Perhaps a little bit, sometimes. But the fact is that most of it was already packed away in boxes and hardly ever seen anyway.

Agreed. I'm currently slinging out stuff that has followed me around for years, but hasn't been used or opened in all of that time.

I know many people feel differently about books, but I'm the same with those these days. Pass them on to somebody else to enjoy.

Give me a few weeks to settle in and yes. Although if its a simple question that i can answer out of the top of my head, I will do as soon as i have read it.

Here is a simple formula for the americans and brits in imperial measurement. room length x room width x 50 = BTUs.
E.G. Room 10 feet by 10 feet equals 100 sq ft. 100 x 50 = 5,000 BTUs/hr. It is a rule of thumb but does not take into account unusual rooms with excessive glass window area and excessive sun exposure for example, but will be a good enough rough estimate for most standard rooms. Divide the answer by 3.412 if you want watts.

^how about if it's in metric? I've seen the formula before (somewhere else) but I didn't take note of it. About which unit to buy (how many HP) if you're given the dimensions of a room.

Add'l question: which is better, window type (box) unit or the split type? The box type is cheaper to buy & install (just make a hole in the wall) but how about noise & maintenance (in the long run)? I've seen newer box models w/ inverter.

Most homes that I see here in PH have the box type. In my office, the older rooms have box type but the newer rooms (new building & departments) have split types.

    TIA.

All the best in your transfer to the Thai Cow Manor!
