    New Vehicle Insurance

Please explain to me how vehicle insurance works in Thailand. What should I get and from what company?

I知 picking up a new truck the first week of next month. I was told I知 getting one year free of level 1 insurance for a year. What is that?

When I bought a truck back in 2007 it was on payments for 3 years and back then I was told I had insurance as part of the payments. Back then I just rolled with it. Dumb? Yes. This time I知 reluctant to just roll with it.

Appreciate any and all advice you all can give me.

Level 1 is the best or top insurance coverage available. Most, if not all, include that in 1st year of purchase. It covers virtually all aspects of an accident. At the end of the year you have to renew obviously. There are lesser pkgs available for a lower price but I would always use Level 1 here.

My wife has been with AIA for 35 years, but we all use Bangkok Insurance first class. Been super, the two times my car has been hit I had a surveyor out at my car in less than half an hour. Spoke perfect English and really helped out. Been perfect. But for health and life we both use AIA.

Girlfriend uses Sompo which was recommended by Honda where she purchased her last car. Honda gave her the Sompo coverage for free as a promotion the first year and she has kept it ever since.

She has never had a problem with any claim but says there are better insurance companies out there.

We have carried first class (MSIG) on our cars and third class on our bikes. We have found that a combination of a 5K deductible and agency garage (non-dealer) brings the cost down considerably while giving us the same liability protection and most of the value of the car should it get totaled. No claims so no experience on our arrangements.
