    Finding a home in Bangkok

    Hi Teakdoor

I posted these questions on another thread I read here, but it doesn't seem to appear.

I'm looking online for housing options in Bangkok within commute distance of the airport, around 50K pm there's a ton of choice and location is yet to be confirmed, but a few questions if you can offer some advice please.

Are there certain property developers worth looking for that have a reputation for good building maintenance and high level of finishing?

Most properties are advertised furnished or semi, I have a house full of furniture that I will ship, is it normal to ask the landlord to remove the furnishings?

Can you recommend an apartment hotel to use as a base for a month or two while I house hunt? With good connections to airport and city.

From what I understand expats can only buy condos, are there any restrictions on property types that can be rented?

    TIA

I'd recommend something in the Phra 9 area around Srinakarn Rd. You can find basically any accommodation there and it's about 20 minutes to the airport.

Ok thanks Topper, Srinagarindra looks a nice area with plenty of choice for property and parks nearby.

Land & House, AP , sansiri, Supalai, SC, Ananda to name a few. If you find one you like, pass it by the thread and we can tell you our opinion. I mean if you are just renting then no real need to worry about quality too much. If it is not brand new then you will see the quality when you walk around it.

For 50k a month you should be able to get something quite nice, you are obviously looking at the east side of Bangkok and it would just depend how far into the centre you want to go. Bang Na will be more 'pang' (expensive) than Min Buri and Ramintra areas, where you would get more bang for your buck, have a tonne of housing developments in all these areas. All along Rama 9 you will find some and that has a direct link into the centre and to the airport. Do not go north of the city, terrible pollution and flooding.

I live on the west side which is really nice but obviously for the airport it is a trek, however I do literally feel like I live in another town away from Bangkok which can be really nice sometimes.

For a place to stay, I would recommend airbnb one of the condos around Rama 9. There is a great mall there and the airport link is a stop of a motorbike taxi away. Belle condo is nice, lived there for a couple of years, full of Chinese though who mostly work at the embassy so are quite nationalists and scorn at you quite a bit. The good thing about Belle condo is there is a Villa market (Best foreign food market in Thailand) on the ground floor along with some other restaurants and small shops. There is an Ideo there and a really nice quite new Rhythm Asok 1 & 2. Central Rama 9 is a great mall as well with a good cinema that shows a lot of movies in English.

Good luck, feel free to ask any questions.

Perhaps they are scowling at the unnecessary addition of transliterated words into your talk?
