    Old dog dying Advice please

One of our dogs 17 years old and for a year has been staggering around half dead has now stopped eating and drinking and I know it’s a matter of time but the poor animal is yelping and clearly suffering.
‘The vets won’t give us something to finish the poor thing off and I cannot bring myself to bang it on the head
Has anyone any suggestions as to how I can resolve this and end the dogs suffering

I would think that if you take the dog to the Vets and ask them to put it down humanely they will do ask you ask for a fee of course.
However going to a vet and asking for something that you can use to kill something (in this case your Dog) I am not surprised they didn't give you anything.
How do they know that you are not going to use it on your Missus or someone else?

^ if you love the dog, find a vet to put him/her to sleep (an injected over dose of pain killer) and say your goodbyes. You owe it to them not to let them suffer.

Dr. Arnon Pet Hospital has been recommended to me, but I cannot personally vouch for it.

    It's in Chiang Rai, though.

As a general comment - it can be hard to find vets for this in Thailand because of Buddhist beliefs.

If Chiang Rai works for the op then they are on fb.

This can be one of the downsides of being here. It can be very difficult to find a vet that will put a dog down humanely. Our passed away at home, but he was just old, and in no discernable distress.

I would get the missus to start calling all the vets in the region to ask which will put a dog down (as ell noted, they are unlikely to give you something to do it yourself).

I went through it with an 18 year old dog about 5 years ago. I could not find a vet to do it. What made it worse is that my wife who is a very compassionate person simply could not see the advantage of putting her down. So she would not help at all. The last two weeks were terrible. No more dogs in Thailand after that.

Our vets in Korat put down one of our dogs after he was diagnosed with terminal cancer.

I can pass on details if that's of any use?

Some vets in Thailand will give elderly dogs which are yelping in pain phenobarbatol. Not meant to cause their deaths but to ease their departure. If the dog is not eating or drinking, it won’t be long anyway.

Sometimes they might give you sedative overdose you would inject leading to painless death in sleep. Just explain the situation and you don't want your dog to suffer. This is all very sad but it's life
