    Banking and security text messages

Its getting to the point that I can barely use my credit cards and ATM cards anymore. Every single transaction lately gets blocked for potential fraud and requires a text message to be sent to the phone number on file. This phone number MUST be a USA number as they will not send to an overseas number.

In the past I maintained a Skype number that would send me text messages via wifi/data but apparently citibank AND Bank of America are wise to this and/or Skype has stopped allowing short messages to be sent via their service.

Ive spent hours on the phone with both banks and they flat-out refuse to do anything about it. Ive requested that the verification text be sent via email and they refuse. Must be a US phone number. Citibank actually had the audacity to try and get me to upgrade my "banking package" as a work-around the fucks.

So here I am at 4AM waiting on hold, again, for 45 minutes, for someone to answer at citibank and un-fuck my daily ATM withdrawal limit which as been arbitrarily reset to $300 per day, which, im told, by a philipino, only counts on week days and the daily limit gets locked over the weekends - never mind that its not the fucking weekend.

So, does anyone have solid workaround for this issue? Skype doesnt work anymore, and I need to be able to receive text messages via wifi/data.

Is this an American banking problem? If so, is it possible to shift your funds to somewhere else like (I dunno) the Cayman Islands?

I find the account communications from our Chase private client accounts to be necessary and easily dealt with.
Think over the years I think I have had three fraud alerts which required a phone call and card cancellation.
The primary issue then is getting a replacement card sent (when the fraud is actual or the card expires),
Last time the carrier (DHL) did not have a local Thai number and the first delivery failed.

Our private client status requires a U.S. address and phone numbers, and I no longer maintain the fiction that
our presence in Thailand is temporary - will see how long that works out.

Get yourself a Thai bank account with an ATM card.
Use your US banks internet banking app to transfer money to your Thai account.

I have a thai account and regularly transfer to it through transfer wise, but even THAT requires a fooking text message.

At Chase our daily limit for free wire transfers is $250,000 - never needed to ask for an increase yet.

That is exactly how I do it also and my Swedish little internet-only bank has no problem sending me a SMS with an OTP Pin to my Thai mobile phone number.
You must have a very shitty bank if they think that their credit card should not be used outside of US which is what they basically say if they refuse to send SMS to an overseas phone number.

Go find yourself a decent bank that caters for traveling customers and overseas working customers.

Apparently his bank does, he just needs to upgrade his account. That old saying about penny wise and pound foolish comes to mind…

The “upgrade” does not change the text requirement if they see what they deem to be suspicious (which is every other purchase) so it wouldn’t solve my issue, but make your faggoty little swipes like a good little punk.

Must be an American thing because it’s all about fraud. If I get hit and money stolen, the bank has to pay it back as insured so they put all kinds of obstacles in the way to keep themselves from having to pay out. Citibank used to be very very good and there was never any issue but nowadays it’s almost unuseable.

I carry a Citibank CC card issued here and use it all around the world without a problem one. I get sms messages while in the states or anywhere in SEA if making large purchases. Maybe its just you and the way you have it set up.

I seldom ever use my BofA CC here unless for business travel but I do have a travel notification set up in their system about my location which I have to update every 6 months. No text message required, never declined. Additionally I do keep a permanent California address which is my Dad's place to keep it simple. They do not mail him anything as I have everything set up to email and paperless.

    Lots of various solutions.

Krungsri decided to accept 2 payments on my Credit card last night without OTP confirmation. Now some fucker's running around Oz with AU$ 1,200 worth of fk knows what and a AU$ 200 vodaphone card to brag to all their mates about it.

I haven't taken my CC outside the house for a long time, but I have used Lazada frequently and The Pizza Company the only other thing I can see on there going back to xmas holiday bookings.

I'm all for the text /email confirmation system, when they bloody use it!

Exactly what I have setup right now, travel notifications and everything, but every other damn time I try to use citibank cards they get shutdown. Just 2 days ago my "simplicity" card was blocked at powerbuy much to my embarrassment after shopping at the place for an hour and a half. Hands down the worst is citibank CC's but my prime card and barclays card are flawless and if theres an issue they send me the OTOP via email or web link.

I really dont want to change my bank, I just want a solution to the whole bastard text message shit.

"Citibank" is sort of different depending on the country you work with it through. I had an account in Singapore for a few years and it was different than the US based one.

How do you do that if you're changing SIM cards all the time?

Im beginning to think this is the only consistently reliable solution to the issue. Getting a junker USA SIM and a dual sim phone, but still leaves me fucked while im offshore if theres no actual mobile phone coverage.

Thats why Skype worked so well, I could get messages on wifi or cellular... But thats fucked now.

Your bank will surely give you that money back as well as a new card, right?
