Immigration Police and Khon Kaen University have denied that the termination of the employment contract, work permit and visa of David Streckfuss are related to his political activism in Thailand.

Pol Maj Gen Kritsada Kanchana-alongkorn, the division commander, said Streckfuss had applied for a new visa on April 1st. The application is being processed and the result will be announced, tentatively, on Sunday (April 18th).
So what kind of visa has he applied for now? Presumably not a Non-Imm B as that would be processed the same day.

Appears to be randomly convenient for the Thai authorities as this current situation applies to Professor Streckfuss. All of a sudden it's a fashionable issue.
He's been rather critically vocal for years through lectures, articles, books and quasi-activism. Quite well known and respected throughout the scholarly world of Thai Studies/Affairs.

His broad involvement in the Khon Kaen and educational communities is quite admired by most.
Administrated the Council on International Educational Exchange [KKU branch], founder of The Isaan Record, among other inspiring activities encompassing education, apprenticeship programs, local agriculture, etc.

What is saddening some is the silence [in defence] from his Thai university and political peers, which actually shouldn't surprise.

Another, in a series of coffin nails as such applies to Thai higher education and academic/scholarship suppression -

American academic has work permit terminated by Thai government

A foreign scholar, who wrote about politics and the lese-majeste law in Thailand, had his work-permit revoked on Friday after security officials had earlier visited his university.

David Streckfuss, an American academic who worked for Khon Kaen University and one of the key figures behind regional news outlet The Isaan Record, revealed on Friday that the university canceled his work-permit last month after the school’s rector was visited by police.

As a result his visa has also been canceled.

The police told the university that the scholar is involve with local politics after David organized an event for writers, artists, academics and activists in the Issan region in February.

The political historian, who is the author of ‘Truth on Trial in Thailand’: Defamation, treason, and lese-majeste’, has been in Thailand for the past 35 years and has contributed invaluable works in his field.

He has been with the university for the past 27 years before his work permit was terminated.

The Isaan Record has asked for a new work-permit for the academic but there is still no answer from the government.

The country is becoming more and more a commie cesspit by the day.

Still, what can you expect from a crude, underdeveloped society such as the Thai which permits a distinguished academic devoted to his work and his peers to stay for 27 years on a work permit yet cannot give him permanent residence.

And these buffoons want to attract retiree migrants to milk them for their cash.

    Dreadful place, dreadful people.

Not sure which country is it referring too. Is it the one where FB and Twitter and and...decide what is good and what's wrong for the population to read?

    Hmmmm....
Appears that David Streckfuss is receiving the final blow - even when meeting with local immigration officials and others attempting to intervene on his behalf.

This morning [Thai time], Khaosod's Pravit Rojanaphruk had a live interview with Professor Streckfuss updating the circumstances - can be found at Khaosod English and Facebook Khaosod Live.

Seems to be the talk of the town within particular circles....Thai Enquirer, Thisrupt, The Isaander, Prachatai, New Mandala, Khaosod, among other Thai and English language outlets.

This item is just an example of the coverage:

A "30 day overstay visa", whatever that is.

While David is currently on a 30 day overstay visa, Hathairat and David have consulted their lawyer and are pursuing either a 2 month ‘COVID visa’ or a 1 year spouse visa, “If this doesn’t work,” said Hathairat, “we can try a retirement visa.

How many foreign academics are you aware of that have 'disappeared' in China or Russia? My guess is none.

Calling a police force who is carrying out the orders of a monarchy "commi's" is just bad terminology.

The dangers of doing or saying something 'out of line' are clear and present in China, so nobody would.

Very few foreign academics have been 'disappeared' in North Korea too.

What a bastion of freedom of expression it must be.

If somebody needs to enhance power of his "argument" (actually, when no argument), it needs just a "correct" label (commie, tovarish, chinkie, ruskie, you name it...)

I'm surprised he was an "activist" for 35 years and is just now getting a visit from the police.
