    Termite Control Costs

I searched around TD and couldn't see an answer to my question:

How much does it usually cost for an annual termite control treatment?

When I built this house a year ago the builder put in underground pipes for termite treatment. If they are as good a everything else he did then they probably will not work. Anyway, I am prepared to give it a go.

Last year when the rains arrived the termites here were horrendous. They swarmed into the house under and around the closed doors and windows. I have added some draughtproofing strips around the doors in an effort to reduce the problem. The sliding windows however are easy access. This year I want to be prepared and the gf found only one company locally in Nongbualamphu that offers a termite spraying service. They claim to use organic products, not paraquat or similar. Their initial quote was Baht 17,500 for a single treatment. After haggling and explaining that this is a very, very small house, they brought the quote down to Baht 15,500.

This is about 10 times what I was expecting. A couple of guys, half a day's work with a bucket of mystery spray. How much should it cost?

    Shutree,

We did our 2 years ago and it was 6,850 baht. We have an under slab system as well. We have 12 ports ( 6 on each side of the house) for the magic termite kiiling solution. In all actuality, if it works like it does in the states, it doesn't really kill them. It drives them to your neighbors house and property where they can feast uninterrupted ...

The neighbours are a few long-term resident farmers. I don't suppose they'd notice an extra million or two insects. Fair exchange for their marauding chickens, dogs and cows.

I think you are not too far away from here? If you can find the exterminators' contact details and pm them to me I'd be very interested.

    Thanks.

Exactly how I see it. I have a neighbor with one of those toy lap yappin dog/rodents that is extremely annoying once it gets into that rhythmic barking cycle. I am hoping that us driving the termites to their house will have it fall apart and they have to sell the dog for new wood. . I have also thought about taking up a Peregrine Falcon hobby.....one dive bomb and a coast over to the river and bombs away.

Let me dig up the company name. I think they came out of Chiang Mai.

I had the missus old house done about 4 years ago, she still owns it but it is vacant. Was vacant for about 5 years before, a neighbor said to check it, it had a full nest up in the rafters of the kitchen about 1 foot round and 2 feet long, tunnels all along the concrete fence and up and around all the walls of the teak house. Cost 10,000 baht to come 50k from the Mueng clean out all the visible signs and drill holes through the concrete and around the house, the contract was for 2 more yearly inspections, had to call them to come back to inspect. house is still ok as of about 6 months ago.

if you can find their nest just go to the local hardware store and buy a gallon can of termite poison, bang holes in the nest with a long length of pipe or steel and pore the poison into them, got rid of our termite nest permanently after 2 applications

The missus's old house down the road had been vacant for 5 years, Had a huge nest upstairs in the add-on kitchen bathroom area, 10,000 baht for the clean out and drilling holes and pumping chemi etc with a come back back next year contract, never followed up on it.
    Plenty available around the country.

As a bit of anti-chemical, I searched for other solutions against termites. maybe it is worth mentioning one here:

to keep them from coming in the house through the ground you can construct a "channel" around your house perimeter. it should be at least 15cm wide and 30cm deep. If you fill it with a fine grain of sand, and keep this weed-free, the termites are unable to construct tunnels in this sand. Unfortunately, this requires a regular "weed-check".
