I wanted a futon to put in our guest room a couple of years ago and found nothing as well. When I lived in San Francisco futons were probably more popular than sofas, but dont seem to be here...

tc might know someone, but what about the social distancing?

I reckon ao is right though. Not that popular in Asia outside of Japan.

Yeah. In States always had one. Great guest bed and works well for couch.

A few years back I had read there was a place in BKK. A western guy and his Thai wife and they had high ratings but can't seem to find anything on them now.

^ We bought a futon in 2007 when we built the house... from an American guy and his Thai wife in Bangkok. May well be the same people you mention.

The website then was www.bangkokfuton.com but it doesn't seem to be working now. Do a search on that, and plenty of stuff comes up, but it doesn't seem to be very current.

Your post reminded me about the futon... and we don't seem to have it any more. I remember it was a good quality wooden frame with a kapok mattress.

That was the place Mendip. I was interested at the time and got side tracked. I did the same search and all lead to dead ends leading me to ask

I think I saw a couple of futons in Decorum, Thepprassit, a few months ago, at best wouldn't be much of a selection but may be worth a call.

I always thought futons were just Japanese mattresses but it seems you want a sofa that folds flat so you can sleep on it if required. Is that right, JPPR?

^^ Futons have mattresses' that act as the seat cushions when folded, whilst sofa beds have a mattress built into the frame with cushions removed when you want to make it into a bed.

Futons are so passé. How long have you lot been out of college? Might as well grab a hookah while you're at it.

Every household has these types, but not directly referred to as Futons.
    ....and multi-use versatile.

Yeah, California got hold of them in the 90s and they went from mattresses to...what you describe.

Yeah. They are convenient and double as a couch so to speak. Occasionally we have guests stop by and now with room downstairs built, guests can stay the night. A sofa bed would work but in my experience they are usually uncomfortable and rattle a lot.

Just slip some bromide in your guests' tea...

Yeah I google searched as well and came across a few. Most sites are dead ends. I was hoping to find a place in Thailand to keep it simple.

The shop Mendip referenced is the one I had visited in 2009 in BKK. Very good quality. Apparently it's gone. I didn't think of IKEA but most of their furnishing are cheaply made. In the states people buy it as disposable apartment furniture. You move, you throw it away.

Stick one of these on the back of the guests bedroom door.

Should lengthen the life on the bedsprings

He sure does. When buttplug comes for his annual stay at Chez Dilly.
