    Anti-dog poison... ???

So, the last hour or so saw ChokDee not so chok dee at all... He was hyperactive, licking the floor lick crazy, fast heart beat, manic and panicking - he kinda looked like a kid on acid for the first time.

I wasn't sure what to do or what the problem was, so I:

    - stroked him and tried to make him relax. He was mentally disturbed by chemicals, that was sure, and that used to help gfs...
    - gave him some milk and bread to ease his stomach. He had an upset stomach, that was sure.
    - gave him lots of water to stop him from being dehydrated and making it worse. He was stressing and sweating and dehydrating himself.
    - gave him some sweet biscuits to try to balance the acid in his system and bloat him to stop him eating more.

So, the wife gets involved and firstly:

    - gives a strong Thai herb for his stomach - that may have helped balance his system? I told her that wasn't enough, he was wrong in the mind and body from chemicals...
    - gives him an egg white which she says has saved many of her dogs over the years from poisoning. It kinda made sense to me that the same symptoms/problems of Thai field farm dogs which are probably related to them drinking water after pesticide has been sprayed, linked to ChokDee maybe licking the floor or a bucket after the wife had cleaned the floors with bleach (which she had about 2 hours ago), and I suspect was the problem here.

Anyways, within perhaps 30 minutes, he did a huge vomit, started to relax and is quite calm now. He's not 100% ok, but much better than he was. He is still showing signs of strange behaviour, but doesn't look like he's on a bad trip (no, not a weekend to Koh Samui although... )

I suspect that everything helped, but the egg white forced (by syringe) down his throat is a kinda old wife's tale remedy which seemed to have contributed significantly.
    Cycling should be banned!!!

PM Jeff for the long-term effects of drugs. Though of course, like Jeff, the dog will probably never be the same again.

I'm no expert by any means, but felt better when I reached the bit where he vomited; a hefty barf is always good to evacuate toxins from the body, and squirt at the other end when it's been in the system long enough to pass beyond the early digestive stages.

Noted; my instinct would've worsened the situation by pouring milk into it.

    I've had 2 dogs poisoned.

    1) Ate snail baits from a friend's garden. His dog had never been interested in them, mine ate the lot!
A trip to the vet and was given an injection to cause vomiting fixed her.

    2) Second dog became addicted to biting cane toads. I'd find her tripping and frothing at the mouth. Grab the hose and wash as much poison out of her mouth, then off to the vet for an adrenaline shot. She must have got a good high, because she'd go after every cane toad that she ever saw. The only thing I could to avoid more episodes would be to lock her up inside every afternoon before the toads came out.

    This reads like Dog Darwin'isms.

While it has never happened to me, I know a few that had exclusive house dogs for the most part. Fed 2 square meals from the bag or can. Then they take them for a walk or they get out and they have zero common sense and then eat something and die.

Glad your Dog is OK BB. We need it in every picture you post. .

Is it a coincidence that chokde'd gets ill when the mystery free furniture arrives.....speak to Mrs Betts and make sure she gets the monks round to appease the desk ghosts.

I can understand if you are in the arse end of Thailand with no vet for 100's of miles (and that fucker Somchai won't be qualified anyhow), but in a major City like Seoul a poisoned pet should surely be rushed to the nearest vet rather than separating an egg and sticking one of the wife's amulets on him whilst typing out a long op on here amidst the poor mutts suffering?

Who was the poster on here who gave his kid paracetamol and asked if he'd be ok? Anyone remember that?

    Anyway....Get Well Soon Chokdee

^ I'm in Korea's third biggest city and there's no 24 hour vets that I know of.

He did not look like he was gonna die immediately, but rather he was in an intermediate stage where if it'd gotten any worse we'd be in a serious situation. &, egg white is the go to, mate - I'm not sure the vets are gonna do much more than make the dog vomit and put them on a drip to keep hydrated and perhaps some relaxant - what else can they do? Maybe some adrenaline if the heart is struggling.

I remember, a few years back, a friend tried to kill herself by slitting her wrists and downing loads of tablet, she lived in the same house as me and knocked on my door at 3am in a terrible state (literally blue with her eyes rolling...), so I made her vomit as much as I could, grab the bottles from her room (her wrist efforts were poor, not much blood, so that wasn't a concern) and woke up a next door neighbour to drive us to the hospital while I held her (she was having convulsions and was unconscious by this time) and tried to keep her as lucent as possible and generally as attentive as possible. At the hospital, they just stuck her on a drip with fluids, checked the pills and the fact she vomited and crapped herself too then said they'll just have to wait and see. By the morning, she was mostly better just in time to be sectioned... Oh, the good old days. She'd just split up with her boyfriend, so I had to phone him and tell him the situation, I was as sympathetic and subtle as I'm able...

Thanks everyone for all your comments, and he is still alive.

    Anti-dog poison... ???-20200116_165557-jpg
(that's him in the park about 20 minutes ago)

So, the little bastard was unwell until about 6am when he finally relaxed and went to sleep - he'd had 3 egg whites during the night and did some amazing vomiting. In the gardens, dogs eat grass and dirt when they are sick, this sneaky little fuker had stolen a pillow and some bits of paper and was eating the inside of the pillow and some paper under the bed where we couldn't see him - I suppose that's their natural instincts; maybe he won't try to drink the floor after the wife has mopped it in future (I'm not certain that was the problem, but seems most likely).

Took him to the vet, one injection to ease his stomach and some medicine for the next couple of days. The nurse stuck a thermometer up his arse, so he turned round and bit her (he's never bitten anyone before...), just a small nip, no blood.

Then, off to the park (I try to take him at least once a day, even in these fukin horrible minus temperatures of the Korean winter), and he was perky, running around, playing, did a nice big healthy dump (which I cleaned up and put in the environmentally friendly plastic bags that the local council sell to me and collect then probably dump in the sea...).

Right, I'm off out. The little bugger seems ok, 90% himself.

Next time, no milk or bread, just egg white!

Just to add: he got worse again after my intial post (probably due to the milk and bread I gave him... ), and was angsty all night, licking the floor like crazy, unsettled, vomiting, mentally suffering too; when I say it was like somebody taking their first bad acid trip that's exactly how he was mentally, but he clearly had physical symptoms (stomach and general well being) too - I'm pretty sure it was a poisoning of some sort.

Well, they could prescribe a whole lotta expensive laboratory tests to lighten your wallet while the pooch recovered. Good friend of mines Lhasa Apso ate something "bad". Chronic diarrhea and vomiting for a week with daily visits to the local vet - when all was said and done the dog recovered, as my buddy put it "on his own" - bills totaled just over USD $4k for every laboratory test imaginable over the course of the week along with boarding the dog at the hospital, etc.

That being said - they are family and children and when they are sick you will do everything in your power to heal them - cost be damned - fix the pup!

Congrats for a good story with a good ending.

^^^ As someone who lives in 'the arse end of Thailand' I keep a packet of activated charcoal in the house for such an eventuality. Thankfully we haven't needed it yet, but it's a black powder that you need to get down a poisoned dog's throat asap, by mixing into a drink with water, or maybe raw egg? This powder bonds to the poison and prevents the stomach absorbing it. It's amazing stuff.

The only dog we've lost to poisoning was one of our 'outside' dogs who had walked across a tarrow field and left nasty footprints... she paid for it with her life. I found her too late, dead with white froth coming out of her orifices. Poor thing... still makes me angry five years on.
