    Villa Market VPlus app

I shop at Villa Market fairly frequently and have been using their discount/member card for a few years. It was given to me at the counter during checkout. Didn’t have to sign up or give them any information. Every time I checkout they scan the barcode and every now and then I get a 500 or 1,000 Baht discount. I am generally happy with it.

Today I looked at installing Villa Market VPlus app on my phone. During the sign up process they are asking me for my phone number, nationality, passport number, full name, birth date and so on. I am not comfortable with this.

Does anyone here have the VPlus app? Is it worth having?

putting personal info on a thai sourced app, what could possibly go wrong?

soon you will have bank accounts in russia, dubai and albania along with many new passports too, and all for the dubious priviledge of getting a 5 baht discount on those veggies you bought there.

Can your Missus join and you use her details Barty?. Assuming they don't put Thai's thru the wringers like Farangs and the credits can still be accrued, it might be worth looking into.

Foodland recently started some sort of a loyalty program too, my other half joined it and it works by giving the cashier the phone number of the member, there's no card. If she's not with me I just tell them her phone # and she gets the credits, the rewards are items like Power Banks of which she scored a free one worth about 1500 Baht last week (after I'd spent probably 20-30 grand on groceries to accumulate enough points)

Agree, I don't know what Villa are thinking doing this, and I wonder if it was the app developer who is sneekingly collecting the data.

No, the signing in requires the same info from everyone.

I have tried to sign up using only my phone number and e mail, but the app insists that all info is filled out before submitting.

No problem at Tops/Waitrose, though they do sometimes piss me off after scanning by reminding me of the wife's name.

I wouldnt order food online in Thailand, fresh food especially. They're bound to pass off all their bruised fruit, old meat and nearly out of date shit onto you and I certainly wouldnt be handing over my correct passport number.

I went into that Decathlon place as recommended on here today. Got to the counter and the cashier's asking the wife for an email address or phone number. After kicking up a fuss and pressing the red unsatisfied with service unhappy smile button on his till and asking why I should give them something to send their advertising spam to I typed in contactus@teakdoor.com

    Cheeky fuckers

I used the villa app for a while but didn't see any benefits so uninstalled it.
