I agree with all the negatives about hamsters others on this thread said, and even though I was aware of them while my daughter was growing up, I still got one for her.
There should be a hamster in every kid's childhood,
so suck it up, go out, get them a hamster, and suffer like the rest of us, all part of being a dad.
Just the excitement and happiness in the kids face when you first get the hamster, is worth it all.
Soon they will forget about it and you will be stuck taking care of it, but still worth it. When they get tired of it , simply forget the cage door open one day, Of Course deny it was you.

Wouldn't trade it for the world.
The sooner you fall behind, the more time you have to catch up.

To be fair, it's extremely low maintenance.

Sprinkle some of it's grub into the cage once a day.

Dump the cage content's into a bin and replace once a week.

As for any smell, not even close to what ye with Isaan missus's put up with at dinner time.

Just disable the wheel at night.

We did that hoping to change it's nocturnal habits but the annoying thing just got fat.
It escaped around the house for a week and wreaked havoc, glad when it got kennel cough from our dog and croaked.

    RIP

    Hammy

I got 2 hamsters for my daughter when she was young and they lived in a cage in the kitchen until one day they just vanished. Never did figure out what happened to them. My monies on a passing cat . Done the fish thing as well with exactly that same tank which gets dirty very quickly.

    Have they bit anyone yet?
Or have you taught Luigietta not to pick them up like a predator?
