I know I am happy with the Redmi device as is Hap in NZ. My only draw back with it is a glitch that turns the ringer off. But check it once a day and its all good.

Samsung has heaps of aftermarket kit like phone cases (hello kitty). They are definitely the most widely known.

Huawei makes some outstanding phones with marvellous specs, but without any proof I get the feeling they're harvesting everything off my phone.

Xiaomi makes some very good phones at great prices. The Mi 9 series is worth a look. The new Mi Note 10 is a bit pricey, but still cheaper than iPhone, Huawei, Oppo, and Samsung top of the line offerings.

Me, I'm waiting and putting my spare change in the piggy bank for the upcoming in May release of the OnePlus 8. It's going to be a spec monster with far more features than I could possibly use, but still...
    pues, estamos aqui

A good advise among others. Then, the balance of your budget can be spent on more useful things (you surely know which ones).

And you will not regret when you step on it inadvertently or have it stolen, dropped in the water when sailing to Phi-Phi islands, etc. Buying another one, better or not at all, depending on your new wonderful experience with smart phones...

They are not bad.All mobiles can do the same thing nowadays without lag. All you need to look for is one with great camera reviews, which Xiaomi/Redmi are not renowned for.

The Samsung S10 should be a good price now with the S11 out soon and that Galaxy has been the benchmark for a decade now

    Hang on.

My daughters Redmi Note screen cracked. I took it to Tukcom in Pattaya. It was cheaper to buy a new phone than get it repaired. I ended up buying a screen replacement off Lazada and taking it to Tukcom and no one would touch it so I tried fitting it myself with aid of a You Tube one hour tutorial and in the end took a hammer to it.

So no, avoid those Chinese phones with their delicate screens at all costs, although thinking about it there was a Mi repair shop but only in Bangkok.

Get a Samsung, there are loads of service centres and you wont have to go to Lazada to buy cases for it unlike that wonky Chinese shit

Get one of last years flagships. Phones, like TVs have come as far as they can now and just rely on gimmicks, ie 3 cameras, or tvs with their curved screens, 3d and uhd bullshit

Xiaomi are good phones but they come with a load of bloatware preinstalled. Check your storage when you get it and delete/uninstall what you can.

It runs its own interface called MIUI behind the android OS.

depends...the Mi A2 lite android one model I bought last year was pretty much stock android.

Be sure to get a global version. The China only versions will likely have incomprehensible crap installed whilst the global versions are relatively clean.

Type-c connector? It's better than fiddly micro usb connectors.

That's what I forgot to mention. The Chinese versions are the ones that are stacked with the bloatware.

When you stroll into the boozer/restaurant/casino and lay your Benz keys on the table, then put down a Xiaomi smartphone, it's gonna perplex people

I had a Mi3 or 4 a few years back.Loads of stuff on it was in Chinese, even the app and theme store. In those stores you could get iPhone themes, iPhone wallpapers and iPhone ringtones. It even looked a bit like an iPhone.
I've never seen an iPhone freeze like that fukkin thing used to though
And the gps was shite on it

Xiaomi is up to Mi 10 now. Those versions bear little resemblance to the 2019 releases and the upcoming products in the next few months.
