    Shipping recommendations

I am in London and want to ship two steamer trunks to Thailand.

The shipping companies I have contacted are total muppets "Whats a steamer trunk" and with mad pricing.
    Quotes from £252 to £1,260.

Any recommendations for sea shipping companies that are both efficient and cheap ?

    Thanks

It's a few years ago now, but we had a very positive experience shipping stuff to Bangkok using this company:

    Welcome To Worldlink Shipping

They charge depending on dimensions, and may also not know what a steamer trunk is.

    Thanks. I have emailed them.
In didn't know so many stupid people worked in shipping. But once you have bought the trunks you just can't give up.

    Yes. I am immortal.

Here are the items which are padlockable and operate as storage furniture when not travelling. https://www.storagetrunks.co.uk

And yes you can fit two dead bodies or one irate living one in them. I have tested.

Why the "muppets" should be oblidged to know? Nowadays, the things are shipped in containers, crates, cartons, packages, cases, etc...

Because its their job to know what can be shipped and what can not be shipped.
The steamer trunks will be shipped in a container along with other peoples goods. Mine will be secure. Cardboard cartons get crushed.

I give this link as a public service. When I get to Thailand I am hoping for free drinks but my personal history tells me it won't happen.

Cyrille kindly did so and I am waiting for a reply.

The muppet companies were staffed by Kiwis and Ozzies who transferred me from one to another like some telephone game.
And they sent me two quotes £252 and £690.
    Muppets.

I remember living in London and shipping my worldly possessions back Home.

The shipping containers of the day were, literally, tea chests.

FWIW, we are about to ship 100kg+ from Sydney. Long story short, it was cheaper and/or easier to send it via air freight, and quicker. Sliding scale per kg, once we got over 100kg the rate per kg dropped quite a lot - $3.50 AUD per. Don't have to clear it ourselves at the Thailand end either, and is delivered to our door.

My wife got shipping company recommendations from Asian friends - Thai and Filipino. She also found them via advertising in the local Thai newspaper you pick up at Thai / Asian supermarkets and the local temples.

I imagine times have changed, but I worked in KL a bit over 25 years ago and a bunch of us were relocated to Bangkok. We shipped our stuff together in one container, and someone in Thailand - Customs or the shipping agent - gave us a choice - 65K baht import duty or 30K baht "coffee money". Lucky me (contractor) had shipped his stuff with a bunch of Canadian employees, and the (Canadian) company we worked for paid the lesser amount, no idea how they put that expense through the books though.

Mob we are shipping with this time have advised we only send one each of any electrical appliances, and all should be obviously second-hand.

Yes, air charges per kg, surface shipping by cubic measurement. A box full of air costs the same as a box full of tools when shipping surface.

You could try bmexpress.com. they send by air and send BALiKBAYAN BOXES . The balikbayan box was an idea by filipinos living i Australia to ship goods home. They have since gone global and a quick look at there website tells me they are in the UK .ive used the service from oz to the philippines a few times after it was r3commended by filipino friends. If you dont mind a wait the sea option was incredibly cheap. And door to door.

Seems like it's just a cardboard box that people put spam in to send to the Philippines.

    Key word there.
