    Border Run

My first 90 day visa run is due the 5th. What grace period do they give you? I can't go for about a week from now.

    None.
Be there in time or you'll have to pay 500baht per day of overstay, get an ugly black overstay stamp in your passport and risk being not allowed back in Thailand.

500 baht per day over....no black stamp just a normal stamp that says you paid a fine...not a big deal for a a few days....i got a couple and never been a problem anywhere.....a week is pushing it though

Depending on your visa u might be able to get a 1 week extension

^I've done it three or four times, and actually this is the truth ime.

I think the size of the gamble varies though.

From minute if you're arriving at Swampy form afar for the first time in a while with a return ticket, to small if you are at a land crossing on a border run.

Once at Mae Sot the bloke told me that if I left I wouldn't be allowed back in. I turned around, got a stamp that said 'Extension of stay denied, must leave the kingdom within 7 days' at Mae Sot immi and paid the fine at Swampy for the other 5 days upon leaving. *

Generally it is a stamp you definitely want to avoid, as my passport was studied with keener interest upon my next visit after that runaround.

*Note: this was about five years ago during a crackdown.

Your visa would also be canceled. So you'd be returning in on a Visa Exemption.

You can go to immigration before the PoTS (Permission of Temp. Stay) is up on the 5th and should be able to get an extension. If you are married, this can be for 60 days. If a multi-entry tourist visa 30 days based on tourism. 1,900b.

Yeah, I'd overlooked that about the op's situation.

Mine was the last run, and normally it's OK to do a run just before your visa 'expires' and get another 90 days on top of it. For the time I mentioned this was not possible as they were having one of their tightening up periods.

If it's your first 90 day run on an existing visa and you've overstayed it then that visa is toast.

You are back to square one with an exemption for 30 days tourism.

If i remember, there is some leeway on the 90 day reporting and i think OP may have mixed that up with the visa run. As noted, no leeway on the visa dates.

Yup, that or a 60 day extension based on marriage at an immigration office.

Otherwise you'll lose the visa and have to start again.

Btw, any PoTS can be extended for 60 days based on marriage, including ones given on a Visa Exemption (entering with no visa). It was known as the Unofficial Marriage Visa for blokes living near the borders before Savannakhet started giving out the ME Non-O to dodgy crims and illegal workers a few years ago.

Do a border crossing, pick up a liter of whiskey and 200 fags Duty Free. Get 30 days.
Go to immigration and get a 60 day extension for 1,900b.
    Repeat every 90 days.

Rubbish. Or at least not neccessarily so. I've been late once by one day and paid 500, and was thought to be late (incorrectly) and was simply asked to pay.

Thus Feb 3rd because Dec and Jan had 31 days...it's easy to think of 90 days as 3 months, but they calculate the days. Have a look at the entry permit stamp in your passport.

And the day that the visa starts counts as one day right?

In other words, 24 hours after you have been stamped you are considered to have been in the country for two days. (!)

Now it's the 3rd and not the 5th, I hope that's from looking at the stamp in the passport.

Go to the immigration office with all the documents you needed for the marriage visa - Marriage Cert, wife's Tabien Baan (blue house book), her Thai ID, signed copies of all. Bring the wife too. You've little margin for error.

Get a 60 day extension based on marriage for 1,900b.

If you entered the country on the 5th of November then by my calculation it expires today.

November 5 would count as one day. Today is day 90.

You can read by yourself, can't you? You have a permit-to-stay-until stamp in your passport so it shouldn't be that difficult for you to grasp when you have to do your border run.

So you'll remember what happened on your visa runs of six years ago with perfect clarity, I guess?

What I do know is counting 90 days from the day you entered, including the day you entered, works whatever the visa.

Has he really been dumb enough to miss a date actually stamped in his passport do you think?
