I found it enjoyable for the first 2 years, after that it became tedious - specially considering the other way around: any bum who gets into Germany can apply for permanent residence after 3 years, whereas I have financed a Thai family for 20 years by now and need to perpetually apply for permission to stay.

Still pretty good here in Laos i can get a lao retirement visa for quite small money but you have to been married to lao girl for over 10 years. I meet all those requirements and thought about it. Eventually just paid $550 to an agent for another year. No border for me. Im hoping the lao dont get as xenaphobic as the thais seem to have become under the junta. I choose to livve in a communist country but pretty sure ive got a lot of freedoms here. If you all live in thailand then the times they are a changing

^ Oddly enough (or perhaps not) I see myelf seeing out me retirement in Laos, Burma, Vietnam, or real low chance, Cambodia in 20 years time.

Kid will do schooling in Thailand then university in Europe. After that I imagine all of those (vast improvement in infrastructure providing) will be more appealing to a bloke in his 50's looking to see out his days in SEA.

Vietnam, probably, but Laos has a good chance.

Add: much less bureaucracy, hassle, and expense.
Yet, some find it inconvenient and a comfortable trade off to cave into the institutional extortion that is associated with non-imm varieties.

    To each his own.

Have your clumsy paws broken the 'ignore' button again, Oafy?
