Condo noise and next door neighbor

I have recently moved into another condo which seems to have thin walls and my next door neighbor has complained that I have awakened him because I talk on my laptop to America at 06:20 in the morning and his bedroom is adjoining my living room. I guess he is a light sleeper. This is a convenient time for me to speak to my elderly father in the US. I would like the opinions of BMs as to what times you would consider it acceptable to make phone calls and not be a nuisance. Also what time would you consider that I should refrain from having my TV on at night in order to let him sleep. Guidelines to acceptable times would be appreciated. Please don't suggest that I or he should move to another condo!

Move the laptop to the other side of the room and use headphones to talk?

Egg cartons and a stapler, all the pirate radio stations used them to muffle noise.

Either that or speak quietly or failing that.....move

...invite him/her over for a drink and socialize a bit...or, use your computer/watch TV in your bedroom and not your living room...or, ignore the neighbor and do what you want until things come to a head and one of you must move out...at least one of these suggestions must have already occurred to you...

The condo is small, and even if I use headphones that might have the effect of me talking louder as I cannot hear myself. What I really want is opinions on what times I should respect his peace and quiet and not become a nuisance. e.g from midnight to 8 am. ?

^ Maybe knock next door and ask your neighbour what times are good for him?

6:20 is not ungodly. It's his problem for renting a room with paper walls and sounds like he's being an intolerant snowflake. Is your neighbour Thai or farang?

^ Exactly.............Anyone that chooses to reside in a condo environment must also accept the conditions condo living presents.

Carry on doing what you are doing and let him come to terms with it.

    Not your problem.

I'd use 10 PM to 8 AM, and, as Bogon suggests, ask what times are acceptable to him.

I would tell said neighbor that I, read that as you, in regards to his complaint, and in the interest of keeping the peace, will curtail my simple pleasure of conversing with my friends and family to the hours of 8AM to 10PM.

If he gets combative, hand him an advertisement for noise canceling headphones, and/or an advertisement for a condo buy/sell relocation firm.

Yes, but kudos to the OP for at least trying to be nice and find advice for his neighbour's problem.

I'd imagine that's not a problem with a very loose, stretched sphincter.

I agree...this can also be the start of a polite conversation and slight negotiation about the times. At least the guy will take it as a sign that you are considering him.

From my experience, its quite unusual for a Thai to complain like that. Thais normally believe in "grin and bear it" - right up to the point at which they go apeshit and stab you.

I personally might discuss the morning time for the phone calls, but no way would I offer to restrict my evening TV to accommodate him.

I don't think 6:20 is too early, since the sun rises earlier and, in the sticks the insect chorus is around 5:30, which is loud enough to wake the dead.

Quiet between 22:00 and 6:00 seems reasonable.
