    Cremation and Organ Donation

Is cremation for non-Buddhist ( eg Moslem or Judaism ) expats , legally allowed in Thailand ?
Or organ donation for that matter ?

    Thank you .

Cremation seems to be OK as many a farang who expired here has had the old bag of charcoal and container of diesel treatment.
As for organ donation, apparently not. My wife and I discussed the issue and she had already signed the papers to donate her body to science upon the event of her death and I told her I'm happy to do the same. She informed me that I can't.
She may be wrong, but that's the extent of the info I have. It may have something to do with avoiding controversy if the donor's home country and family get upset.

My instructions from my wife should she meet an early death are to call Prince of Songkhla Medical School and tell them to come and get the body. The papers are signed and there should be no problems with legalities.

Edit: Some readers may pick up that she's donated her body to science which is different from organ donation. Apprently PSU has the option to harvest her organs too.

I think organ donation is a great idea, but I doubt mine would have much value for transplant. After the abuse over several decades, it might prove useful as a lesson in how not to abuse the wonderful collection of vital organs that we have been endowed with.

    Medical science it is then.

Checked into it a couple years ago. At that time Khon Kaen University hospital was taking dead foreigners for science and or organs.

^Yes, that's correct. Any Uni hospital will take the advance booking and will provide you with a card confirming that, for you to keep it with you to let to know the people who will find you in the ditch, not to start the fire behind the wat...

That's interesting. I'll tell my wife. If nothing else it will save an expense to give by body away.

I wouldn't disagree with any of that because I don't know, but one lawyer told me that when a farang dies the wife effectively has jurisdiction over the corpse for the purpose of disposal.

If this is the case, though I wouldn't put the house on anything a lawyer says, it seems to follow that she could donate the organs or even the whole body.

Yet, most Farang don't come by a democratic manner intuitively.

[that one will require some thought than the usually surface consideration]

This is a massive misconception, sure in Thailand there is not the deceased donar program like in many other western countries, and living have to come from relatives, (so we can't buy them). You would be amazed organs in poor condition are used. Herein oz they are used on older folks, Folks in their 70's get deceased donars in Oz, but there is so much other needed, right now there is a huge shortage for particular types of skin, eyes, etc. I would be dead without it, simple as that.
