Thai banks while living overseas

Yes. And I hate Samsung. I prefer iPhone and I sure as hell aint buying a new phone just to organise a few transfers here and there for a Thai Bank who is a decade behind the times.

You top up your sim card with 50 Baht every month, you do that payment through internet banking.
You register it as a standing monthly payment.

I knew someone would have a go at what I said - and rightly so. There is a way around it like you and others have suggested but I am trying to streamline things. With multiple banks in multiple countries it really can become tiresome organising multiple sims and multiple top ups etc etc. Hence my thread to find out if, since I last did my research if there is now a bank in Thailand who will send SMS to a +61 number and/or allow sms to be turned off. It would seem lie this still isn't an option.

And MeMock (+ others perhaps) there's an obvious typo in your thread title but the word Will brings up a point worth pondering for those of us with Thai bank accounts, what happens if we fall off the perch?.

I made a Will with my lawyer that among other things, states that my bank account balance goes to my partner. She has a copy of that document and knows to take it to the legal firm if I die and they'll facilitate the release of my Baht to her account. They tell me this is normally done in a day or two if there's a Will in place but it can take forever or longer if there's not!.

Just something to think about for those that don't have a plan in place for that scenario...

Bank account is in my wife name and she will outlive me for sure - but yes a very important thing to consider for people with overseas accounts as my current will only allows for Australian registered companies / accounts etc.

Bangkok Bank don't with me. Once I have the details set up I don't need the SMS - only if I am trying to send money to a new account never used before.

In rural Ubon, nearest 711 (& ATM, not Kasik) was 9km, half over rough tracks, almost impassable in the rain.
Kasik bank branch was 30km, and not worth the journey.

Regards the Banking system being Decades behind i suggest that it is you who is decades behind dealing with monkeys up North who make shit up.

Try getting with the program and dealing with Bangkok head Office who employ smart coonts who know the go.

Yeah I purchased a Sammy S8 dual sim the other day primarily so I do not lose my Thai sim but also because I need to access my K Bank account... Paid my credit this morning and the OTP came through instantly.

I just organised 2 transfers using my BIL number. I set it all up = my BIL sends me the code via LINE and Bob is your uncle.

Not well advertised but DTAC prepay balance can be for 180 days and any unused balance moved forward for a cost of 12 baht. I have a sim for this very purpose to use online banking overseas, so it does cost me 24 baht each year but I don't use that sim for any other purpose put 1000 credit on years back still c880 .DTAC do charge for the sms overseas but its just a few baht, calls and data are of course another tariff

If you have a registered DTAC sim the code to extend is

*113*180*9#

Since new improved gov someone needs to register the sim with Thai ID or passport so our pals can read my texts to Lulus headchef
