Fishing on my local River-20161208_141846-jpgI guess their must be some heavy import tax or some other"catch" to get the real deal there. Maybe that's why I get the pinch at the airport for having the gear. Not really sure. I'll see next time as I'll have another box full and a half dozen decent rods. As I always do I'll shake an Ugly stick at her. Then the man in uniform will ask for 50 bucks.

Take a driving range golf bag with a few clubs and bung the rods in there. I have taken motorcycle exhaust and some front forks to Indonesia! They might X-ray it but they all appear long and thin!

I have 3 Ugly Sticks here. Love those rods.

I have to say that anyone really making the move here the cargo container pays big dividends. I have 14 rods and 9 reels and 3 tackle boxes full of various gear. Was listed on manifest as fishing gear. I also have some hip boot waders which have been invaluable for fishing and other stuff around here.

I do find it strange they sell all these "bass, pike, musky type plugs and most of the fish are bottom feeders except Snakehead. I have yet to see people bring in a fish on a plug.

I refuse to be a bottom bait fisherman. I need to be tossing plugs and spinners. I wish Thailand had Peacock Bass here. That would be fun.

I have failed miserably so far with my frog lures, although it's not so easy with medium rods. I might get a faster action rod and see if it works any better. I managed to catch a snakehead float fishing a couple of feet below the surface and another fish, I don't the name of, when testing in my own pond. I was using stick rice balls as bait in both cases.

I think I'll try surface fishing with bread when I next get a chance on the river. Just mainline with a hook and a lump of bread and see how that goes.

@Troy. I am going to mix up the ingredients I bought and try it a couple of different ways. Floating it with no weight and then with a small slip weight to get bait off the bottom.

It's the week now and the river is empty of fisherman.

I have managed to get some photos together at last:

    Fishing on my local River-local_river-jpg

The local river, where I have bee trying out lure fishing with the wife. I know there are fish in there, I've managed to catch a couple with my camera:

Here's a snakehead wondering what I'm up to on the bank. None were interested in my lures though...

Looks fine in the water to me and I've tried splashing and waiting; waking him slowly and quickly as well as hopping across the water but nothing seems to be interested. This one and the white one below came with me, the other two we bought locally but the small blue one is too light for my gear.

I had more luck float fishing with a large waggler to cater for a sticky rice ball for bait. I didn't manage a photo of the snakehead I caught in the river but here is a red bellied Pacu (I have since found out it is locally known as Pla Jaramet). The wife put them in the pond a couple of years ago.

It went back in to be caught another day. The pond isn't huge but big enough for the wife to practice her casting and me to test some rigs before going down to the river.

The locals are too busy collecting Oriental mole crickets, known locally as malang maeng sohn, from the rice paddy so I am alone on the river most of the time.

They look like they could be good fish bait... talking of which, the wife was thinking of going to one of the fishing ponds to catch catfish for the day and bought some food bait similar to you JPPR2:

I was going to mix some of it up in a bucket, when we go, and roll it up on the hook, similar to rice or bread.

Still busy cleaning the house and repairing the grounds after the floods in August. Damage isn't bad but there are few chores to carry out before I can have a relaxing day by the river.

Wouldn't a swingers website be more practical?

I set up 2 rods today. One to try the Bread ball stuff and one to toss plugs and spinners while I watch it.

The 2 rods above are both very fast action, one a Cabelas 6'6" and the other my St Croix special. 6'. I will start with my Cabelas. I will use 6lb test Fluorocarbon line from P-Line.

I have been busy as hell around the property. Today thought I had time to go and the I had to plant 5 Mulberry trees and when done the help showed up to start tearing up the tile under the house. This will be a 1.5 week project. I will try and sneak in some time.

^ I could do with one of those...
I had another couple of hours by the river this morning while the wife and her cousin collected fresh water shrimps in the shallows, about 400m from the photo above. It was very weedy, with a lot of overhanging trees and water lilies so I tried frog lures again. No luck catching fish but I had a couple of snakes swim by and take a look. I also had a Kingfisher swoop down and get pretty close before climbing away in disgust. I'm glad I used the lures in the end as I had a couple of silly casts, one ending up in a tree on the far bank and another on a small island. The lures happily survived my errant casts, where a float rig would easily have been lost.

I didn't catch any fish but I had a great time watching a little bit of the world get on with its life. A really lovely couple of hours...

At that's really the point in all of it, Just being outdoors, relaxing and having some fun.

I haven't been out now in quite a few days. Started a re tile project that has grown into a bigger project. I have thread going about it. But one thing that did come from it, One of the guys helping remove the Cement debris showed me a couple of really good places to fish about 5kms from me. I will go try them once I have the house back in order.

Most rewarding aspect of fishing are the connected items that one can't describe, even if just going through the motions.
