    Well, that's a bit surprising.

Still waiting for a few documents etc.

When I spoke to my building manager about that they need to go there, they said that foreigners can't get it, that the local Tessabaan that deals with it refused all previous foreigners that own units in our complex.

Their excuse was that they hadn't lived here for 10 years.

I explained that I've lived here for just short of 15 years and have organized and confirmed everything with the Tessabaan already.

Anyway, surprise surprise today the Tessabaan called me to ask what is happening because we haven't been in contact with them since.

They said to drop off the documents we have, financials to show I'm not a dodgy criminal, photos, building manager and child for interview.

Then after that when my Cert. of Residence arrives from Immigration (one month wait), can bring that in to finalize the process.

    Sweet.

I'm a little confused (which is not difficult) is a certificate of residence the same as the letter you get when you want a Thai driver's licence?
Why does it take a month, other than this is Thailand?

    Yup, that's the one.

CM Immigration say one month, you can then offer 1,000thb and get it next day.

I'm such an honest, anti-corruption kinda guy, plus I don't need it for a month anyway, so went along with that.

btw, the yellow book will replace the need to ever get a Certificate of Residence ever again.

I am glad I live where I do then as I asked for a letter and got it withina minute of the request.
I did however pay a 500 fee but don't tell Pragmatic.
I deal with Immigration in Buriram same as him but I have never had any issues.
I don't usually pay any assistance fees but if the Missus is with me she does as she just wants to get it done and get out.

    First set of photos rejected.
Need to have them redone, this time everyone needs to stand together, morbid Thai style with eyes looking directly at the camera, arms hanging limply by the side. Nobody allowed to wear glasses. 4x6.

Friend and building manager interviewed, their documents submitted and passed. Both then told they need to return for 2nd interview after my CoR has been presented. Child interviewed and passed.

Financials submitted, checked for one week then passed.

Friendly smiles and easy going manner on my side, an expression on par with me reaching under the desk and squeezing his testicles for the duration of any meeting on his side.

Oh man he doesn't want to give it.

All docs submitted. He will schedule the group interview 'when he has time', but it might take a long time, as he has a lot of duties to do.

Of course the Cert. of Residence only lasts a month, so that could be his method. Fine with me really, I'm happy to keep on getting them with a smile on my face and handing them in.

Seeing that he couldn't dissuade smiley, happy Loo with nonsensical requests etc, he told both MM (who he insisted is listed in the blue TB as the House Master) and the manageress of the building that once they sign my application form, if it is accepted, they become legally responsible for myself and the unit, if I have any financial or legal issues in Thailand in the future, these issues are legally passed onto them.

Which is a pretty impressive tactic, really. Scaring the bejaysus out of the Thai witnesses, making them not want to sign the application form.

Anyway, all moving forward bit by bit, interesting to see what else he can come up with.

Some of the docs may have accidentally been altered during the process.

After he realizes you ain't gonna help with his child's next tuition payment - he'll call about the interview date/time or, as was in my case - I was waiting for the interview with the "Big Boss" (also reported as a very busy man), and, out of the blue my wife (not me) got a call telling her to pick up my blue book. Half hour later had my Yellow Book in hand. No interview at all for me. Wife and friends did get interviewed.

Nonthaburi Province - just a bit more than five months from first contact to receipt.

Being given the Thai card ID number of xxxxxxxx02 and not being a local IO dinner party attendee, I suspect it was an uncommon experience at my particular District Office.

The office eventually provided something adequately near to what was suggested as being available.

Occasionally reminding the District Officers and others of, potential career/social enhancing knowledge, has been a part of my life for decades.

That's exactly what happened to us.

Got a call at 4pm today. All done, Tabien Baan is ready, I just need to go and sign for it, then it needs to go upstairs for Head Honcho to sign for, we close at 4:30pm if you can do it now.

Err, okay, went down, they have it ready, signed for it, but Head Honcho is busy, will sign for it next week. Checked it to make sure everything is correct.

In the end not even an interview with our listed friend or condo manageress.

    Sweet.

No more fokin Cert of Residence when buying/selling vehicles or properties or for car and motorbike licenses.

    Congrats and well done, Lu...
Some of the officialdom comes in handy from time to time, even we'll moan and groan occasionally towards the process.

    Cheers.

Have you got it yet Lu?

I have an appointment at the amphur 10.30 on Monday and expect to be out with a yellow house book and the pink ID card by lunch.
Was there for another errand yesterday so took the opportunity to test the water by asking if it was possible for me to get them, the girl had obviously done this before so she immediately wrote down the five requirements on a piece of paper and asked when I wanted to come back and have it done.

There may be some other "requirements" she forgot to mention. It's not as if one can do much with them when you are rewarded with them.
