    Thai Motorcyclist

Recently, I read that more motorcyclist are killed in Thailand than any other country. After reasonable consideration it would appear likely that there are basically two reasons for this.

One is that the motorcyclist believe that they are impervious to harm and violate every rule of the road that they can. The dash in and out of traffic, run lights, speed, travel on sidewalks and do whatever they please without regard for their lives or the lives of others. Most are out and out assholes.

The second reason for so many deaths lies at the feet of Thai policemen. Those lazy bastards, as far as can be seen, do nothing to enforce the laws against these motorcyclist. They are allowed to ride on sidewalks, weave in and out of traffic, run signs and lights, etc., etc., etc. The only reason they ever stop motorcyclist is to shake them down for a few baht. If they enforced the laws there would be fewer deaths. But, this is too logical for Thailand.

Third reason; a large amount of riders and most passengers don't wear helmets.

Ya can't expect the Pigs to effectively do their job when their wage is so low.

This in-turn feeds corruption which in turn has fuked Thailand in every department.

    Regards the Motor cyclists,

I reckon their best trick is when they pull out of a Soi on to a major road without even check-en for on comin traffic.

    I love that one.

Fookin Dumb plebs they are, no tears from me when they lay splattered over the road.

Generally on three lane roads for not riding in the left lane.

They don't do it on dual carriageways or single lane roads as it creates too much of a jam!

This sounds a lot like cyclists. Both here and in the West?

You nailed it T57. In the west we learned a long time ago you have to pay civil servants accordingly for their job and the risk. Most Police make less then local assembly workers. It will never work. They simply do not care. In fact I am honestly not sure what purpose they have here at all other than random scams on the 15th and end of each month.

As for the motorcyclists behavior and deaths. It is what it is. Years ago vehicles were not part of the equation and deaths were likely very low. Now the balance is changing and you have a high mix of Motorcycles and Trucks/Cars. Couple that with untrained or uneducated drivers and its a volatile mix.

And the policeman would be richer. Police receive, on top of their wages, 95% of the fine when a ticket is issued. The 95% is pooled with other officers from their station. The incentive is there to make money as well as, at the same time, enforcing the law. Surely the non active officers based in the office must put pressure on the active officers to achieve a set quota of tickets issued?

How do you know that they receive 95% of a fine? I have never heard this before.

'Marmite the Dog' (ex moderator) on here was the first to state it on this forum. I just asked a local copper to confirm what MtD stated and he confirmed it.

Of course that there are probably 10x more motorcycles than cars wouldn't have anything to do with it would it!

No road safety training specific to bikes is a big reason. And being able to get their licences at the drop of a hat without real testing.

    And riding drunk.

And everything in Thailand is always someone else's fault.

Not much help when they're smeared along the road or wrapped around a truck's rear wheels, but there you go.
