Where in Thailand is the least amount of mosquitoes?

During a recent visit to Hua Hin, I noticed the absence of mosquitoes and minimal flys. Where in Thailand has the least amount of these flying bugs and why? I would guess along the coast due to a constant sea breeze. Does frequent spraying help?

Because of the altitude and less standing water?

About a month ago I would have said Don Mueang because since the great flood of 2011 it was bloody hard to find a single one.

Maybe when the floodwater receded it washed away any mozzie eggs or left them high and dry to bake in the sun, I don't really know.

It was great not having them around but since about a month ago, I've now got to have a fully charged Mozzie Zapper Bat at arms reach when watching tv or trying to sleep.

It seems they came back with a vengeance as they appear to be even more abundant than before. Last few days though there hasn't been as many but I'm worried about when the rains come and there's more standing water for them to breed in.

Looks like Lampang-shire, but Sakhon Nakhon, Singburi, and Nakhon Nayok, and maybe Phayao and Phetchabun look ok too.

According to those maps, assuming they are current, I am not living in a bad mossie area.

...above the 20th floor or so of a highrise bldg...no mosquitoes here on 31st or flying termites in January...wind or river breezes may occasionally waft a critter up, but not enough to be annoying...

Can't say I've really had a ploplem with flys in Asia, more worried about the damn mozzies giving me dengue or malaria, worst place I've ever encountered flys is in outback Australia. Not unusual to have 200 of the fuckers darting around your face, sure takes up a lot of time and energy swatting the persistent coonts sunrise to sunset.

Yes, and I would imagine that the flies are a nuisance too.

Why don't Australians wear one of those face nets like they have as standard kit in the IDF ?

BLD, I have lots of flys on my back patio. Of course, it could have something to do with the three cows I have on my back two rai.

...and all this is measured seasonally dependent - higher altitudes or not.
Come the rains and heat, all regions acquire their share of fucking mossies and assorted critters.

    RC,
As you witnessed at our house when you came over we have no flies or skeeters. I have never been bothered by them ever. There are always skeeters around but never where you have to run an hide. The worst place I have experienced to date is Ayutthaya. The area seems just loaded with Skeeters almost year round. Flies are hit and miss.

Yes JP, I think I may have mentioned how there was a lack of mossies/flys when I was there. I am convinced our location is the reason for our fly problem. Lots of agriculture around us and they all seem to use chicken shit for fertilizer. Again, having three cows in our back yard does not help either.

If I want to escape most of the flying critters, I will head to the beach, or your house. :-)

I've been out to Kanchanaburi on the river Kwae and there were very few bloodsuckers, there were "river flies" but they were more of an eye sore than actually bothersome.

Also there were many dragonflies in the area and that is always a good sign as their larvae actually eat mosquito eggs in the water.
