I've only ever paid duty on items if sent by TNT or other courier. Couriers collect duty for the Thai government automatically. Just have it sent 'Recorded Delivery'.

Philippines, but about the same. Anything by DHL or the like, slammed with duty. International mail...none. Every time. And never had anything lost or stolen. Have had sent to me books, reading lamps, skin care products my wife likes, DVD's, TV light bulbs, etc. Never a problem. Once had a book sent to me DHL by a friend who didn't know.....$12 book. They wanted $18 duty.

Will you be saving heaps of money by ordering it yourself from China? Why not just order one in a shop in Thailand?

    buying from aliexpress ?

if it comes china post 99% chance you will not get slugged on import. I buy stuff from aliexpress often and never had to pay import.

If you do get hit, then it may only be for around 17%

All you have to do is find the HS code of any product and you can find the duty rate in seconds.

This may help...HS Tariff codes for Laptop battery for 141 countries | DutyCalculator

    --EDIT--

Click the "Search for import tariff" on this site and add the HS code for an exact amount...http://igtf.customs.go.th/igtf/en/main_frame.jsp

depends how far you are from pantip - I have bought a couple of batteries over the years from a place on the ground floor

the other advantage is you should get a battery brand that you can have a reasonable amount of trust
