Work for foreigner in Sisaket province?

I'm researched it a bit and seems like a foreigner can only teach english with a TEFL certificate, or does one really need a degree if teaching in the country area? Restaurant work, or internet sales (don't know how yet to do that). Are there any other possibilities? Maybe working along with other foreigners?

A TEFL certificate isn't a legal requirement to get a job teaching English in Thailand.

You could buy about 25 repossessed studio apartments in BKK for that.

Easily get 1500 bt per month per room so monthly income of about 40k plus obviously the rents Will go up over time and increase your income. Your capital gain will also double every 5-7 years.

Correct. After you get to Sisaket check schools in the area. Likely one will hire you. Don't expect much more 30k baht per month.

I would love to have a steady job, and helping kids learn basic english wouldn't be a bad deal. We would be living near Cambodia so it's out there. Maybe other expats in the area can get together on something and have a business. I really love Thailand and the country life, so all that I would need is income after my house was built to cover everyday expenses, which aren't too much from what I see.

Legally, to teach I think you need a degree and teacher training. That *should* get you a work permit and, most importantly a reasonable visa to stay.

Practically, out in the boondocks, you can most likely get a teaching job without the right qualifications, BUT, you will almost certainly not get a work permit or a proper visa - which could bang you into the dreaded visa runs, unless you have another visa option - marriage, retirement.

With a house built and paid for, the probable salary (around 30K per month) is liveable - but practically pretty dam tight unless you can completely "Thai down".

Other lines of work - you can pretty much forget it. Without a major profession or skill you are going to be looking at jobs which are normally locked out for foreigners.

One last point - "and helping kids learn basic english wouldn't be a bad deal" - if you have no prior experience or training - you are likely in for a nasty shock. I would imagine a class of bored kids being forced to spend time with you is its own particular hell.

If you have a degree or a TEFL certificate, work is easy enough to come by. The money isn't much, but many English teachers supplement their income with private tuition. Kantharalak has a bar/ pizza place where the farangs hang out, especially in the afternoon. You will at least be able to support yourself, while you check out if you and the Isaan life get on together. It's quite a nice area actually- fertile (by isaan standards) with a rich volcanic soil.

You could always try farming, fish. I mean fish farming. Aquaponics on a snall scale, at least you would not starve. U tube it. It make a nice hobbie.

You will have no trouble finding a teaching job in the sticks of Issan, Narm Yuen I believe is looking for one, 35000 a month, Buntharik, my nearest town, gave up looking, Det Udom is always looking.

As to other jobs, very limited and starting a small business that a Thai can't do for less, near on impossible.

If a thing can make money, it's worth money, no one gives away a running business that's in the green.

You are also limiting yourself by building a house, the pizza place in Kantharalak, been there a long time, don't know if it makes money or just breaks even, but if it works there, then pizza etc could work in Det Udom.

True but my understanding is that to work legally as a teacher in Thailand requires a work permit and eventually a teacher's licence. To obtain that work permit as a teacher requires a degree.
So not possible to work legally as a teacher without one

Lets not forget the coronary tail in this forum of the chap that got a teaching job for a few years on a fake degree.... then many years after he stopped teaching the thai's went though old wp applications found his fake degree, issued an arrest warrant, sent in to court and he nearly ended up with jail time.

The house will be all paid for. Just need cash to live on for the essentials. Until retirement,which is a few years. I'm wondering, since this is a forum about expats, what do all the others do that aren't retired? Do they all have wives that will never leave and jobs locked in forever?
