    Thai TV

    Hi
What are the options for watching Thai TV as cheaply as possible.......can I get a satellite dish installed and thats it no monthly subscriptions? I,ve just had a house built down near Trang and will use it for a week or so only each month,no point in getting a monthly package as I can watch movies downloaded through my pc,its just a case of the GF being able to watch some thai tv news/shows occasionally?
    Thanking you.

Depends where you are. Localy there might be different cable options, and I seem to recall that you can get a TOT box for TV, grammy, true do one as well. Does analog still work in thailand? I seem to think that a TV arial on the roof will furnish you with a handful of shite thai tv,.

Thai TV [or TV in Thailand] hasn't been worth enjoying since the Junta boys took their place.
    Why bother.

Yes. You can get a small receiver and small dish fitted for under 2000 baht (including cable and labour). It will have about 100 channels, mostly free to air. I expect you'll be able to find a small outfit near you to install it and set it up for you. It won't take them long to do it. (An hour?)

More cheaply you could buy an antennae and either fit it yourself or get someone to fit it for you. If I recall correctly, about 400 baht for the aerial (cables and labour extra).

Even more cheaply would be to use an indoor antennae, but with poorer quality results.

    works well enough for me.

There are a couple hundred channels with psi (some channels are repeats), which I also use. I think there are about 5 stations that also show English speaking movies. Some are good. The other night I watched,….

Thanks this is the info I needed-to pay 2000 baht as a one-off payment appeals more to me rather than a package/streaming as we will be only spending a week/ten days per month down there-I have downloaded many films onto my pc ready for watching.......the GF can watch thai TV if she so chooses

PSI do have a few channels showing English language series. New TV, Now tv Mono 29. Csi series, doctor who, elementary, the blacklist and stuff like that. Plus the usual mind numbing Thai crap.

Near Trang is the key, so not actually in the town. What do your neighbors do? If they all have dishes...

I live urban so have a local cable for about 200 baht a month. 3 or four English channels. Universal, ITV choice, Syfy, Sony. Mostly crap but wife watches her soaps.

Take movie recommendations from the TD Media subsection etc...

I go to the pub to watch F!, MotoGP etc.
Better to think inside the pub, than outside the box?
I apologize if any offence was caused. unless it was intended.
You people, you think I know feck nothing; I tell you: I know feck all

A one off payment of around 2,000 baht for a satellite to be installed is more appealing at this time rather than paying a monthly fee for internet streaming or TV package as I intend spending just 7/10 days per month down at the house-if this ever changes then I will re-consider...............I have downloaded many films onto my flashdrive to be watched in the evenings-we never have the TV on during the daytime.
Thank you all though for the suggestions

which is why PSI is the option for you

you can route the cable to all rooms/outside with a splitter/booster and put a 400baht decoder in each position you want

I'm thinking of that option myself.

Is the satt cabling the same as the antenna cabling?

Do you get any disruptions receiving tv signals when the weather is bad or from sun outages?

Coax cable is the same but not all coax is the same..sat and CATV companies use generic (RG6) for domestic distribution..

Rain fade and sunspot issues do sometimes affect the signal causing picture breakup or loss .
