Telephone Sim Card Registration by 31 July

The deadline for registering your sim card is this week. Simple process, took phone and passport to DTAC and was out within 5 minutes. If you don't register it, supposedly you will only be able to receive calls, not make them.

I sent 2 messages from the UK yesterday to people in Bangkok,1 had a Dtac sim the other Ais.Normally when i send sms a few seconds delay before delivery conformation both Thai sims have been registered.
It took 7 hours yesterday i phoned one of the numbers 1 hour after sending message no problem making the call but our friend confirmed no message had been received.
Not sure if its related to the new sim card registration.

With almost 17 million out of close to 90 million pre-paid sim cards still NOT registered by the deadline they went ahead and extended the registration period.

NBTC to extend registration of prepaid SIM cards till August 31

"He said it was necessary to require registration of all prepaid cards for security reasons as some prepaid cards were used for criminal activities such as drug trafficking and insurgency."
I am still not sure after reading the article IF people who haven't registered their phones can still make calls send SMS's or just receive them..

Anyone out there who's not registered their phone yet, still able to use it?

^^ The government with the purpose of preventing incidents of national security.

The requirement for prepaid users to register their sim has been law for quite a long time but has not been strictly implemented.
Then the NBTC - National Broadcasting & Telecommunications Commission announced at the beginning of this year that as of February 1 sim users would have 6 months to comply.

I guess they are more serious about it this time around

So unregistered sims will still be able to receive calls.

How is that going to stop bombs triggered by receiving a call then?

Hmm so nothing to do with a dictator wanting to clamp down on any privacy at all then?

Need to register if you buy a Thai sim.
They issue you a sim you will need to show passport they register passport number against your newly purchased sim number.

"somewhere" is the same place as where you buy the sim-card, just show your passport to the clerk.

Not quite sure what you are asking?

If your phone has a sim (from another county) and you have roaming, think you can just use?

Otherwise if you need a Thai SIM (for one evening probably not worth it?) you can pick one up at the airport, where all the paperwork will be done.

When we arrive my UK sim works without registering but don't fancy it paying £1.30p a minute for phone calls. Would also be expensive to use 4g need to find free WiFi.

I meant that I would only be in Bangkok for one evening. I`ll be flying out from Don Mueang next morning heading for Koh Phayam for a month of layzing on the beach.

Why not just buy a sim card in MBK? I doubt they'd give a shit about your passport
