I used pepper spray effectively in UK against neighbourhood dogs when my boxer came on heat, because not only do they bugger off but they remember you for later and steer well clear.

As they say, a cat that sits on a hot stove won't sit on a hot stove again, or a cold one.

Important, when you meet a dog that you do not know, and even if you know its keeper, when offering your hand or fist always do it from below, as a friendly gesture, rather than from above his head, which he may interpret as aggression and act appropriately.

    Rabies: Symptoms and Diagnosis
    • What are the signs that an animal has rabies? Rabies in animals can take two forms: furious rabies, affecting primarily the brain, and paralytic (or "dumb") rabies, affecting primarily the spinal cord.

In either case, early symptoms can include:
      • Change in Disposition
      • Fever
      • Loss of Appetite
      • Voice Change (such as change in dog's bark)

Later symptoms of furious rabies include:
      • Restlessness/Agitation/Excitability
      • Constant Growling/Barking
      • Aggression, with attacks on any moving object, person, or animal
      • Convulsions
      • Paralysis

In paralytic rabies, the symptoms of excitability and agitation do not occur. Instead, the disease progresses rapidly to paralysis, with symptoms including:
      • Weakness
      • Lethargy
      • Inability to Raise the Head
      • Inability to Make Sounds
      • Increased Drooling
      • Appearance of Choking
What happens to people who get rabies?
After the incubation period following initial exposure to rabies virus, early symptoms of human rabies can include:

      Within days, symptoms progress to:
How is rabies diagnosed? Definitive diagnosis requires laboratory analysis of saliva or brain tissue, to detect the rabies virus.
      • As a result, diagnosis is not possible during the incubation period.
      • Definitive diagnosis is possible only late in the disease, or after death.

How is rabies treated? If infection is allowed to progress to the appearance of clinical symptoms, rabies is inevitably fatal. Treatment is strictly supportive, to make the patient as comfortable as possible.
      • With prompt treatment following potential exposure, however, progression of the infection can be prevented.

Interesting. I have done just that in my neighboorhood, and I usually have 2 or 3 friendly dogs following me to the only cornerstore in the village.

Drag the owners out and kill them, then look after their dogs.

A good way to sort problems such as this is get your "Poo Yai Baan" to sort it out for you, no need to bother with police to get dog owners to keep there mongrels under control. We have a pack of 8 dogs up the road, totally wild and when I mentioned to him they were a bit of a danger he offered to sort it out, no problem. I don't think the owner would have minded either, he couldn't care less about them.

I have noticed that some dogs in my soi like to chase me on the motocy sometimes but not others, must be the vibe I am giving off like "please don't bite me, I am trying to hurry home before the ice for my beers melts"

NickA, just glad your kids are ok! Remember, why I had a big knife on the table next to where I smoke and sit?

Living in the 'mooban' now for many years, I have had a few incidents with dogs. The best approach? Get CRAZY with the owners. (People say don't upset the Thais, bullshit!)

I have smacked, kicked, sling shot, thrown rocks and been bitten. Been there done that. Now what do I do? Find out where the owners live and raise foking hell!

Forget the 'mooban' security guards, BKK police or the head of the 'mooban'. Shit don't work.

Just go to the house and contact the OWNER. This may take a few visits. Once you have found out this info talk to the bonehead one on one. Take your wife and scream and cuss in English and Thai.

Usually, I take a big stick with me when I have these conversations! 'Jing-jing'. Incidentally, I have beat against a few closed gates to attract attention when somone does not want to answer the doorbell.

Most Thais think 'falangs' are 'ba'. Use this to your advantage...

Now normally, I am a laid back dude. But it just takes one dog to change your family's life...

Damn, normally, i don't talk this much...

I see that this board has alot of dog lovers in it-NOT! Listening to some of the BM's remarks are quite humorus and others are alarming. To think that thier are some people with such ill thoughts, on crippling or for even worse killing animals all becouse of some scared reactions from a few dogs is quite sad. I understand some frusrations can be had but we should remember dogs are territorial and are only acting upon instinct. Yes, it is a shame that some dog owners do not take the time to train them, but if that is the case then maybe the inflictions should be aimed at the owners and not the animals. Or are you man enough to do so? IMHO -if I discovered anyone "Twat" hurting or killing my dogs - well lets just say Karma can be a bitch!

I have learned to hate dogs since moving to this country

All those Soi Dogs are being exported to Laos for meat, good riddance, don't have many in Bangkok now.
