No. It's because Internet booking sites bulk-book rooms at massive discounts. If you want the same discount rate for walk-in then book every room in the hotel.

Bulk discounts? Yea sure. Massive discounts that the average "empty," hotel cannot pass on for walk ins no doubt? Discriminatory practices on any level in any country.

I dated an upper-middle class Thai woman for a while, the widow of a Thai lawyer whose husband left her financially comfortable.
Every time I took her to Bangkok we got our room upgraded and got a free breakfast thrown in, I mean every time, and at over 10 different hotels. I'd make the bookings through Agoda, so they could not adjust the price, but they gave her ( and me only because I was with her) the best rooms with free breakfast.

Doesn't work with bar girls, somehow the Thais can smell the difference.
