First post: I need a good quick tailor

    Hi all,

New here, I'm actually half Thai and live in the US currently. I'll be in BKK this month for a wedding (I arrive late Tues and the wedding is Sunday morning). I need to get a suit made when I get there and hoping that someone can recommend a tailor. I'll be staying in Bangmod area but the wedding is close to Don Muang.

    Random first post, I know.

Bangmod is on Rama 2 a ways out of town. Don't know if there are any tailors in that part of the world?

Downtown Sukhumvit? About 140 baht in a taxi plus 50 tollway to Landmark Hotel. 20,000 baht Rajawongse Clothier Victor and Jesse. Quality stuff. Get of BTS at Nana walk past Landmark hotel then there is a row of shop houses they are about 100m past the hotel. #130 black steps with a chrome handrail. Will take at least one fitting, maybe two but can be done in your time frame.

This is quality stuff. If you want cheaper?

Why don't you also contact the person who invited you to find out more information as to style/place to obtain it/cost and any other suggestions.

They make suits will all sorts of different materials. I would say off hand 60% of their customers are from the US. Judging by all business cards pinned to the wall in the changing room.

Great stuff. Best tailors the Indian folks, you can't go wrong. I don't mean that as a knock down either, I have had a lot of stuff made over the years, they are the best.

I've used both him and Raja's Fashion (cousins) I would recommend either.

First off whether you're half thai or half martian while anecdotally interesting, it makes very little difference in the grand scheme of things. Other than the fact that if you look even slightly asian all the thaiz will be off to the races speaking thai to you.

What you appear to be is a person who rarely has the occasion to wear suits or you'd possibly have one in your wardrobe by now. It also appears by your post that this "quest for a suit" is a one off for a wedding.

If you can't find a tailor in down town bangkok, you've washed up in the wrong country. The sois and main streets are littered with indian tailor shops. Some good, some not so good. As I said, seeing as this suit is a once off. Who cares if you get only a single use outta it? It may also behoove you to see what the 'theme' of the wedding might be.

Is it traditional thai in those thai costumes, is it a western wedding, is it one of those up-country dog-n-pony showz? These factors could come into play as far as showing up way over dressed or way under dressed for the occasion. Just a question, it's not your wedding is it? I mean you're just a guest right, you're not the groom?

Good Luck, let us know how it all pans out. Post a pic in your suit for sure!

Please note; no disrespect is intended or implied to the O/P (half-thai) or real 100% thaiz either.

OUCH!!! That cut me to the quick!

    TOTALLY OFF-TOPIC
KISS just did their KISS Kruise IV and they did the two shows wearing; get this NOT their standard outfits, but SUITS by John Varvatos!!

Really out of character even if they were still wearing their face paint!

Is it just me, or does anyone else find that toddaniels can hi-hack ANY thread and post inane unrelate KISS stuff on it?

Christ he's thick as a post!

Oh wait, I AM Tod Daniels.... Strike this post...

I'd hafta say they're all "off the rack", and this is just the 50 t-shirts on the "currently in use" rack.

I've got three boxes of rare ones stored..

If the O/P will wear a KISS shirt to the wedding I'll give him one FREE!

Oh the clothes on the end are those navy blue uniforms that thai maintenance men wear.

As a hobby, I also "moon-lite" as a maintenance man here too.. Truly multi-talented I am.

I will tell you, in my Levis and KISS t-shirts I'm just another invisible foreigner here to thaiz. However when I wear the maintenance uniform I immediately mark myself as a "low class" blue collar worker.

You should see the looks thaiz give me on the Sky Train/Subway when I get on the car with them. They look me up and down and either wrinkle their little pug noses at me or make that "sniff" sound which means they're lookin' down at whoever they sniff at.

At first I thought I wasn't wearing enough deodorant, but nope, it's the outright disdain thaiz in "office clothes" (suits, ties, etc) have for the rank-n-file workers even when they're a white guy!

Blimey - the glare off all those spamheads in the audience must present quite a lighting challenge.
