NEVER been a problem in the past. Just in case I will be sure to be carrying a Thailand departure ticket (never been asked for one at immigration) and a letter from my company stating that im on break/leave from my offshore position.
should be OK im not Russian or Korean either....
You'll be fine entering every 30 days, jojo...
Looks like the authorities have obtained some accurate stats about the situation...The crackdown aims at foreign visitors, particularly westerners, who do not hold a visa, but who exit and then immediately return to Thailand every 15 or 30 days to receive another stamp to extend their stay.
What a load of bollocks."90% of all foreigners making re-entries actually work in Thailand, mainly as language instructors."

that will also apply to arriving by air from Aug 12th, not just pop-across land borders
Now, now "poorfalang" <- an apt moniker if I ever read one!
Not everyone is as blessed as you evidently are.
This crackdown could have been handled a LOT differently than it was. The thai version of the change was even less intelligible than the engrish version they came out with. There was nothing but crossed wires of communication those first coupla days and it was on the weekend to boot!!
It drove a LOT of people off the rails when it suddenly became policy without telegraphing to the masses of foreigners that it was coming into effect.
At more than a few of the border crossings; especially the Burma ones, where you don't really get into Burma proper and instead get a "day pass" to the border town, they really took a hard stance because they didn't wanna let people out who couldn't get back in.
Remember for most folks to get into Burma, the country, as opposed to a Burmese border town which you can't leave; you need a real visa for Burma BEFORE you show up at the border.
At least now at those borders they're numbering exit/entries on visa exempt stamps, but it's still either 3 or 4 and you can't do it anymore..
Remember this crack down ONLY affects visa exempt stamp people. They are what I call "border-bouncerz" or "runners".
No matter what the engrish version says or what was quoted as being said by Immigrations;
It DOES NOT affect people who hold valid year long multi-entry visas of any type (Non-O, Non-B, etc) or people who hold valid multi entry tourist visas. Those visas are designed for people to exit/enter to activate another stay in thailand.
This change will also not affect "real tourists" who use Thailand as a base of travel to see S/E Asia by bouncing from here to another country and back; although you will have to show some documentation like hotel bookings in other countries, etc, to get more visa exempt stamps that the number allowed.
It's business as usual here in Bangkok, and the visa run services are lugging people to both borders of Cambodia and that one out past Kanchanaburi too without any problems.
There are NO shortage of ways to get a visa to stay in thailand long term. Companies are thick as ticks on a hound-dogz back advertising this or that visa.
They just want people who use visa exempt stamps, especially people who live here on them to get a real visa.
It's not the end of the world, it's a policy change which has been long overdue in comin'.
Yes they rolled it out typical thai style, but last time I checked this was thailand so I wasn't surprised..
Also the visa run companies here in Bangkok knew about this the Wednesday before the news even broke on the forums. I'da thought any visa run company worth their salt woulda been clued in to it as well
"Whoever said `Money can`t buy you love or joy` obviously was not making enough money." <- quote by Gene $immon$ of the rock group KISS
I expect it to soon affect those that travel to neighboring countries for numerous tourist visas as well
Singapore well sometimes refuse a tourist visa to those that have had 3 or more already from neighboring countries and tell the offender to go home for a visa.
Just read somewhere else, that the border at Aranyaphratet/Poipet is giving ONLY 7 days visa exempt stamps; even if you've never crossed there before..
Dunno how accurate it is, as i said, just read it.
Thought you guyz might wanna know...

Glad this is happening. With a bit of luck Thailand will be able to clear out some of the low life foreigners. Good riddance !
It will be interesting to see how one of the sponsors of T.V. F deals with this matter as he and his ''school'' have openly advertised and promoted the ongoing abuse of the Education Visa. All with the backing of many of the ''mods'' on T.V. who instantly deleted any posts mentioning Mac Wallet.. Sponsors can walk on effluent in T.V.

Please keep this information quiet.
The expats in BKK will be flocking here.
I moved from Isaan to BKK after 18 months of living there (Roi Et.)
Mainly because the region, as a whole, is a shithole in which to reside. Shitty infrastructure, shitty amenities, poverty stricken with splinters of new money whilst with a society built on face, the result is ugly. Add crappy weather, boring and aesthetically ugly.
But as for visa runs, I'm sure that they're still going on the same as they were when this thread was started.

Sounds like you need another country to reside in since you have already labeled Thailand a shithole. It is pretty much the same everywhere with only subtle differences. I have retired to Isaan and find it to be a good base camp.
If you are already this disillusioned with Thailand, you best get the fuck out.
You misunderstand Rick.
I moved out of Isaan because after 18 months, felt that it was shithole. Where I live now is anything but.
You seem to have picked up the local's way of being angered by criticism though.
Perhaps a sign that it's time that you moved on.
Better to think inside the pub, than outside the box?
I apologize if any offence was caused. unless it was intended.

I sense some jealousy issues with regards to the young, self-made millionaire.
As for the topic, the sky didn't fall, life goes on like before.
Strange comment there Dan.
We have a couple of homes here in Thailand all paid for as well as our farm, having been here some 24 years I think I am reasonably well informed and we are comfortably off too,and believe me Isaan is a pleasant spot.
As an aside Dan I have P.R.(permanent residence status) what about your status son?
